Also, I kept asking myself, how can she take this much time off from being a top NYU economics professor? (The youngest one ever?)

I loved the movie but also found that to be unbelievable. He obviously was going to still dress beautifully in NY - and she must at some point have noticed where he bought his clothes v where she bought hers, for example. I suppose they presented her as someone who doesn't know from clothes, but I do find it hard to believe she was so completely ignorant of his wealth. Or maybe she thought he was rich but not this kind of rich.

I loved this movie, it was so fun and had amazing clothes and gorgeous sceneries. It’s based off of a very fun beach read so if you’re expecting it to be complex this isn’t the movie for you.

And I went out with him for a couple of months with no clue till I went to a gathering at a hotel and his friend informed me not only did his family own that hotel but all sorts of businesses over the world. He drove a nice car but nothing over the top, no one would have known.

Watched the movie last night on RedBox. Meh - not sure what the rave is about. Should have changed the title to Crazy Rich Chinese... Not all Asians are Chinese.

+1

Two years ago I went Christmas shopping with a friend. I am poor. She is not. lol!!! Shopping with her is fun!

We went to a high end handbag store. She shopped. I watched. It was fairly empty so a bored salesperson and I chatted. He told me about some of the big sales he had made in the past month (no names, just $$$) and said those that spend the most money in the store the average person would never be able to tell they had money and the store had a salon type room for v.i.p's so those people didn't even have to go on to the sales floor to shop. I soooo wanted to see the vip room, but I was too chicken to ask.
At the same he said that "game recognizes game" with these average joe looking but really rich customers so someone in sweatpants who looks like they just woke up or may mug you look broke to the average person, but they might be $900 sweatpants and those in the know will recognize that.

As far as Nick and Rachel, I would have been suspicious. There had to be subtle clues that his salary wasn't covering the bills. NYC is expensive. A cubby hole can cost thousands a month to live in so rent money is coming from somewhere!
