A builder now has to allocate 10-25% of new housing to lower income. Bare bones on the inside and dirt cheap.
And last time I checked most immigrant families live with large extended families in small apartments. |
We took this probability into account when buying our house and purchased in an area of MoCo with worse schools so the "extra" value was already taken out of the house. Figured that the borderline school districts we could afford would be going downhill in due time and we would lose money anyhow, so why not? |
Smart move. |
Please write your councilmember. They need to hear this. |
Yep. Our school is seeing the exact same thing. BCC cluster. This problem with illegals infliltrating the schools and soaking up resources from other kids (including other NEEDY kids who could have so much MORE) is everywhere in Montco and only the W's and their feeder elementary schools are immune. They are immune because there is no low income housing in their boundaries. We bought where we did instead of Bethesda for some diversity and to avoid an all upper income white school but we were not expecting this. The majority is become the minority and the minority can't speak English. It is totally out of control and shows no signs of slowing down. |
Not necessarily. Across Rockville (the town seemingly separating the higher SES from the lower SES), school ratings went up this year. |
+1 As much as I hear what others are saying on this thread, buying in a neighborhood with a bad school on purpose because you think other schools will go downhill anyway is extraordinarily bad judgment. Hopefully PP isn't moving anytime soon. |
| Many Silver Spring schools have gone up in re sent years too. Look at Einstein and Blair. |
What do you mean by "gone up". |
I am on the east side of the county, at a school that is probably much worse ranked than yours, and we've absolutely had classes added after the start of the year. We also get good resources because the administration makes sure every last family fills out the FARMS paperwork, even if they are SURE they aren't eligible. It sounds like part of the problem at some of these schools is that the administration hasn't figured out how to maximize resources and meet the needs of a changing county. |
NP here. We are also in a Rockville ES and this happened just this year. 15 additional students signed up for K the week before school started. Last year, in my sister's kids' school, they did start a new K class, but it ended up being mid-year, so the kids had to split up in December. |

And were they all ESOL students? |
Interesting discussion over in real estate forum about SS becoming unaffordable with a link with data to back it up. Hope you aren't investing in real estate - - you aren't very knowledgeable. |
