Two huge blasts rock Boston Marathon finish line

OK, so having been in the business 20 years, "the first report is ALWAYS wrong." Give this a day or two any you'll know what happened.

But Beantown is hardly a nerve center for agitating right-wingers. This feels personal. A disgruntled Bf tracking his ex and detonation as she near the finish line feels more likely. Stalking has gotten so sophisticated and scary--I don't put it past a nut bag. So many people allow themselves to be tracked like deer with their GPS devices Nike+ etc, it can be posted online in real time, anything is possible.

+1. I just read that an eight year old was one of those killed. I can't talk about this in our house - my child is too young to understand so DH and I are being quiet and the news is off. This thread is where I'm coming to share my grief. Can you all just start a hate-speech sub thread if you want to fling shit. It just seems so disrespectful. We all have our knee jerk fears and worries about who might be behind it. I worry pretty much all the time now. You can't fly, you can't run a marathon, you can't do anything without wondering if the crowd or your activity has made you a target. I think about my kids growing up in this world and wonder WTF have I done inviting children to such a monster of a place.

Someone just posted the old Fred Rogers poster - look for the helpers. When you see news that is scary, look for the helpers, there are always helpers. Are any of us, on this thread, helpers? Or just haters.

I realize that this is horrifically upsetting, and a terrible thing for the individuals affected. However, you and your children are not going to die in a terrorist attack. 39,000 people die every year in car accidents and many, many more are injured. That's 13 x the number of people who died on 9/11, every year, just in car accidents. Yet, people still get into cars, because they don't want to let fear prevent them from living. So keep running, especially since it will stave off heart disease, which is what will eventually get most of the people reading this thread.

I, for one, don't think there can be too many webcams and security cams in outdoor spaces. I hope there is footage and they nail this fucker to the wall.

I just saw a CNN report saying that security cameras' footage is being collected from all over the area. I hope it works.

Wow, PP, that's an interesting angle. The only problem is, none of the runners were killed, the bystanders in the bleachers were. If you want to get even with an ex, wouldn't you be better of just cornering her in a parking lot, one on one?

The man shown in the photographs who lost both his legs is alive and now in stable condition (according to his father).

His dad saw the photo on the news.

00:18 Do you have links to updates about this man? Thanks.

I don't want to share the link as it gave the young man and his father's name and linked to the father's (and brothers) facebook page. I also don't want to link it as the family was asking for prayer and that will just get mocked here. I am not sure their privacy will last long but I don't want to post identifying details online. As of the last post the father was still trying to get into Boston to the hospital (he was driving). That was 4 hours ago so hopefully he is there now.

There are friends of his posting on reddit that are giving updates that he is alive too.

But where was the link? On a news site?

So damn sad.

Selfish of me, I know, but I'm really hoping it's not anyone who claims to be Muslim...already had to deal with so much crap towards our family when 9/11 happened...
