Savannah Guthrie’s mom is missing, suspect kidnapping

Anonymous
I can’t read all 16 pages but it’s so bizarre. Who would kidnap an 84 year old? There’s no ransom demand or anything and I can’t imagine this is any kind of retaliation for Svannah who is hardly a hard-hitting investigative journalist.

New info indicates her pacemaker last synced with her iPhone at 2AM on Sunday. Her Apple watch was found on the charger.

A light blood trail (more indicative of what a bloody nose would produce- not massive bleeding) was found on the walkway leading from her door to the driveway.

Info from a local law enforcement source posted by reporter Michael Ruiz on X.

That narrows down the time for people to comb through their cameras.

That area is so dark at night that I’m worried that people’s cameras couldn’t catch the car image. I don’t like driving in the foothills at night because it feels like being on space mountain or something — like you’re hurtling into a dark abyss. Did anyone confirm if there is a gate for community entry? Those are usually better lighted forth security guards.

It’s such an odd crime because if it were just a revenge type crime they would have just killed her in the house. There’s no reason to take her unless they are using her for some kind of leverage—ransom or some crazy “run a story on this crazy thing to get your mom back” type thing. The whole thing suggests to me someone who is very mentally unstable and has watched too many movies/tv shows with this kind of plot line. I mean, remember how Reagan was shot because Hinckley wanted to get Jodi Foster’s attention? Some people who are really divorced from reality do really nonsensical things.

I feel so bad for Savannah and her mom and their whole family. Savannahs kids are little (and her sister may also have kids)—I’m sure they are beyond traumatized as well.

I like pima country sheriffs. They are pretty good, usually get the person, and have historically pushed back on the state and Feds on the pressure to racially profile immigrants for enforcement.
I’ve heard people critical of the DA office not prosecuting aggressively enough but people generally seem happy with the Pima county sheriffs.

I definitely agree about driving in the Foothills at night. All darkness. The neighborhood is not gated- it is one of the older neighborhoods where most of the houses are 40-50+ years old. Seems like door cameras might’ve able to pick up headlights from a vehicle in the darkness (as there weren’t be many cars out ar that hour) but probably not details? But who knows..

The police likely know who and why by now. The change of cadence and tone by the main detective or sheriff doing the interviews with the media is interesting.

I wonder if there has been communication from who took her and they are not revealing that per that person’s instructions. The DC snipers played these games with police with ransom notes and communication.

I'm afraid the police know who did this already and the answer is extremely scary for most of us.

What does this mean?

Why do you think it's scary for most of us? They said there is no threat to community. It's upsetting because we don't want this happening to a kind elderly woman, but why should we be scared for our own parents? The chances are so small. I am more scared about falls right now or rapid decline if we ever convince her to move or if she is forced to move by a hospital stay.

Dark, not gated, fairly large home set back on lot seems vulnerable.

I used to live in a gated community in Florida and you could literally walk onto the property by…. Walking around to the edges of the gate. They didn’t stretch all the way around.

It is being reported that she had a doorbell camera that had been removed.

Is there any way to tap into anything it caught before it was removed?

Yes and no. Vulnerable if someone is wanting to harm you in a targeted way? Yes. Due to the darkness and lack of traffic at night, along with the large lots- neighbors are less likely to see or hear something. However, in terms of random property crime- this home would be much much safer than a more traditionally spaced home nearly anywhere else in the Tucson area. The crime rate is extremely low.

I don’t live in Nancy’s neighborhood but in one of the (very many) Foothills neighborhoods that are nearly identical in layout & appearance. I definitely don’t feel vulnerable in any way.
