I am not against this at all, especially if it is an AP course. They need to be ready before the exams. |
When is the last time there was a closure or delay due to low temps? There have been modified school days if there is ice/snow AND cold, but not because of the cold. |
Please. This forum acts like any closure is both the greatest inconvenience that ever existed AND a personal affront to all parents. |
I mean, it can be very inconvenient for working parents, scaling with the age of the child. It's nice of you can just be available to watch your children for a week, but not everyone can. |
What BREAK? And why the sad face? Teachers are assigning work as they should do. There is no break on the calendar except for next Thursday and Friday. School has not been deemed a holiday or break for Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Nor at this point has it been canceled. |
What break? Like the 2 hour release and Thursday/Friday? Or are you counting Monday-Wednesday as "break"? |
I can't imagine being upset that my high schooler had work assigned while school was probably going to be closed for multiple days. That's how it should be! They just had a two week winter break and will have lots of time on their hands. I wish my elementary schoolers would get some homework! A little structure is good. |
| They’re going to be out all week. That’s the word going around and why teachers are giving assignments out ahead of time. |
When you have a high schooler you will understand. They need breaks because their workload is high. |
I understand that. Luckily they will have the full week to get it done! |
Just wait until the snow NEXT weekend
|
If your high schooler needs an entire week off with no homework right now, college is going to be tough for them. Now that everyone knows how to use Zoom we just meet virtually and don’t miss a beat when it snows unless it’s a lab course. And even then, a lot of of us have virtual lab activities figured out because of the pandemic. Maybe teach your kid to toughen up instead of hoping they get breaks all the time. |
It’s not a break. |
+1 I have no problem with reasonable amounts of work being assigned to 7th through 12th grades. For middle school, no more than 2 hours per day, and for high school no more than 3 hours per day. If school is closed Monday through Wednesday and my kids' (all MS and HS) teachers don't assign work, I will require them to do review of each of their courses, as well as read. They need to keep up with their classes and certainly do not need to spend the days on their phones. |
| They have already closed school Saturday and Sunday. My kids middle school theater production is this weekend, and with no snow on the ground 7 pm Saturday night they shut us down. Shame on you FCPS. |
