It’s wishful thinking maybe for some. |
| I hope everyone with FCPS kids gets out of town by Sat morning. Enjoy your 9 day vacation. |
I cant tell if this is a troll or just completely unaware. The storm is slated to end overnight Sunday into Monday. VDOT prioritizes plowing major roads during the snowfall to ensure emergency vehicles and essential workers can get around. They dont typically begin to plow side roads until after the snow has stopped, so Monday early morning time. If they are plowing the main roads, the sleet that falls after may refreeze, which would make major roads ice rinks and local roads inaccessible. During the storm last Jan, the backroad my kid's school was on didn't see a plow until 48 hour after the snow had ended. My kid's teachers pushed up all the tests they were supposed to have last week to this week (I don't know if thats a FCPS directive or a local school directive but I think they see the writing on the wall and know they're going to be out all week next week. |
Haha, is this your first year with FCPS. 8-10 inches is at least a 3-day closure. |
| Bring on the snow!❄️ ⛄️ ❄️ |
| I think I bought too much meat! |
+1 |
| What do we think this could mean for SACC on Thursday/friday?? |
Since they don’t have to worry about running bus routes Thursday/Friday and the parking lots and sidewalks should be cleared at all the schools by then, they should be open. But FCPS doesn’t have nuanced protocol for snow closures when school isn’t in session. Some combination of allowing remote work or closing some offices could potentially trigger a SACC closure. I would be sure to ask SACC today about their snow procedures for when school isn’t in session. |
This is not an FCPS issue, for Pete’s sake. 8+ inches of snow with sleet or freezing rain on top followed by 8 days of sub-freezing temperatures is a big deal anywhere this far south. We’re not equipped to deal with that daily, and framing it as a district-specific failing is, well, so incredibly Concerned Fairfax Parent. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the 10 straight days with your kids who you clearly don’t like. |
What in the world makes you think that the PP doesn’t like their kids? They are confirming like you that school will be out for a long time. |
Also, just because you want your kids in school doesn't mean you don't like them! School is important. I don't want them going Monday or Tuesday if the roads aren't safe, but I also don't want them home if it's safe to go to school. |
My child’s teachers are assigning work over the break. (High school)

| The mornings will be brutally cold all week. FCPS doesn't like forcing kids to wait for the bus when temps are so low. |
FCPS cares less about kids waiting outside in the cold and more about whether their fleet of buses will start at such low temps. |
