Just because International students have more potential than your niece doesn't make it wrong for international students to study there. Your niece should work harder. International students shouldn't have to suffer for this.

As an American, I have no personal duty or obligation to international students. My country‘s duty and obligation is to its own citizens.

Private institutions are not ÿour country…..

They own everything, do you know? From women's bodies to Harvard.

Most international PhD's stay in America. They become American researchers.

Not anymore. The grants are canceled and money gone. No research can be done now.

Real Trump supporters know this is bad for our country. Conservatives DO NOT WANT THIS. It's the radical left coming for anyone or any institution that worked hard to get where it is trying to tear hard workers down.

When I said I wanted to Make America Great Again I didn’t mean get rid of cancer research and wreck the economy.

Are you regretting your support for the guy who has fallen for the charismatic brain worm?

Weird.
Strange bedfellows here.
Centrist Dem and I’m ok with this.

As a left of center dem I'm also okay with this.

This is FOR SURE getting slammed in court. It's not legal. The executive branch of the US government cannot dictate to a private institution of higher learning who it can and cannot enroll.

Do not expect more seats for your US kids, people.

Unfortunately as someone said earlier, the populist message of “foreigners”taking your jobs and stealing spots from white American kids is strong with the weak….

This is not as clever as you think. Protecting the jobs and spots of the weak is paramount in a democracy, and it used to be part of the Democratic plank. The idea that the United States will source the most clever people from all over the world has no natural limit. A clever foreigner can come for your job, too.

No, Trump will reverse this and/or this is just a scare tactic. Nice try radical left loon.

Agree. They should be reporting all questionable behavior to the department of justice immediately.

+look at the "American" Nobel prize winners. So many are foreign born. We benefit from getting the best talent...or at least we did up until now.

What's your evidence that all grants are cancelled and all research funding in the USA is gone? Psst for those who don't know there answer--there is none.

Thousands of students coming from across the globe to be educated in the US, spend tax dollars here, and then contribute to the US economy if they stay; or disseminate US value if they go home.

A true travesty.

Why not have American students take their spot, instead of having to go to Europe for college? Have you not seen all the top stats posts of kids not getting into T20 and going abroad? That's a true travesty as well.

Because your kid is not the best of the best. How many times do you need to be told that?

NP. No dog in this fight (my kids are very high stats but not interested in Harvard for a few reasons) but you have to admit that the lack of places at top colleges is shutting out some really talented kids these days and making it a lottery. I actually think this is a fair move by Trump to put Americans first. The places for international students should be capped at a small percentage like 2-5% that are truly the best of the best.

What I think I hate the most about Trumo is that he somehow sold you on this notion that Americans are owed something. This nationalism that he is selling is so appealing because you think it will get you something. It will not. You might even have a point at public universities, but at private ones "Americans should be admitted first" means nothing. They can choose to discriminate based on whatever criteria they set. And as a result,t they have the top medical and scientific research.

And are not entitled to tax dollars

Ok, then re-start the bidding process for research. The Gov controls this. The reason they GAVE the $ to Harvard is that they WON the bid for the research….if they think Alabama or Auburn are just as capable, go ahead and award those $ accordingly, but dont go out blaming internationals for these problems.

Real republicans, maga, conservatives know this is a huge mistake. It's dems who want this to happen. They hate excellence and wealth.
Anonymous
The hypocrisy of Republicans who cry small government until they want to control women, discriminate against non-Whites and strip states of autonomy over educational standards.

I'm a right of center independent and I don't think government policy should be used to bully specific institutions because the president is feuding with them. I think major changes to government policy should come from the legislative branch and be subject to debate rather executive whim. That didn't used to be a controversial, but I guess it is now.
