Harvard no longer allowed to enroll international students

Most international PhD's stay in America. They become American researchers.

Trump supporters support excellence. Pulling Harvard's funds is equivalent to DEI.

Not if they get aid.

Harvard is a private school!!!!!!!! They can choose to educate whoever they want!!!!!

Then they don't need my tax dollars.

I agree with this. And I'm a Democrat. Harvard and many other elite schools function like corporations, so tax them accordingly. The way they suck up to wealthy donors (with the exception of some recent unforced errors), they will be fine. Redirect that money to public institutions, please.

I want every church taxed to the highest possible extent first. They provide zero value to our country and public health, unlike Harvard.

I used to disagree with you, until I found our that for every dollar donated annually to churches ($125 Billion per year and counting) less than 11% goes back to good causes….so unless Churches can prove they provide more than 10% back to the communities, they should be taxes as a corp.

Yes. So much for being the party of the working class. There is no such party any more. Republicans and Democrats each just patronize different oligarchs. This sympathy for Harvard and foreign labor (that is, grad students) is shocking for those of us who joined the Democratic party for its pro-labor, pro-middle-class history.

I get that. But we are forgetting the other side here…. Look at WHO DOES the medical research in this country.
Only TWO of the publics are capable enough to be in the top 12. 2 (NIH and VA are being defunded).
WHO do you think will pick up the slack?
be ready for the next cure for [insert whatever disease your relative has] to come from somewhere other than the US….

There you go……Don’t blame the privates….the US Gov did this. Why? Because these are the best institutions at what they do.

This is FOR SURE getting slammed in court. It's not legal. The executive branch of the US government cannot dictate to a private institution of higher learning who it can and cannot enroll.

Do not expect more seats for your US kids, people.

Exactly. Bernie dems want to take away funding from the top students to give it to minorities. Insane.

Thousands of students coming from across the globe to be educated in the US, spend tax dollars here, and then contribute to the US economy if they stay; or disseminate US value if they go home.

A true travesty.

Why not have American students take their spot, instead of having to go to Europe for college? Have you not seen all the top stats posts of kids not getting into T20 and going abroad? That's a true travesty as well.

Because the US and its educational institutions have long welcomed international students because it enriches US science, technology and arts. That a US kid chooses to go to St Andrews instead of UMD is a nonsequitur.

Unfortunately as someone said earlier, the populist message of “foreigners”taking your jobs and stealing spots from white American kids is strong with the weak….

Just because International students have more potential than your niece doesn't make it wrong for international students to study there. Your niece should work harder. International students shouldn't have to suffer for this.

As an American, I have no personal duty or obligation to international students. My country‘s duty and obligation is to its own citizens.

+1
Real Trump supporters know this is bad for our country. Conservatives DO NOT WANT THIS. It's the radical left coming for anyone or any institution that worked hard to get where it is trying to tear hard workers down.

Weird.
Strange bedfellows here.
Centrist Dem and I’m ok with this.

Because your kid is not the best of the best. How many times do you need to be told that?

NP. No dog in this fight (my kids are very high stats but not interested in Harvard for a few reasons) but you have to admit that the lack of places at top colleges is shutting out some really talented kids these days and making it a lottery. I actually think this is a fair move by Trump to put Americans first. The places for international students should be capped at a small percentage like 2-5% that are truly the best of the best.
