First Elon hasn't provided any evidence of this. Second, we have zero context. The US used to fund the Taliban against the Russians. This could be dimwitted Elon musk revealing state secrets. I mean I bet the CIA sends money to all sorts of bad actors across the globe for who knows what types of covert operations. The US CIA once had an alliance with the Italian Mafia. These dumb Fs in DOGE have absolutely no idea what they're doing. They may even be funding rebel groups in say Africa in order to prevent the Chinese from gaining a foothold there. Zero context. |
All of those payments were made according g to appropriations. That’s what our Constitution says. I hope Elon robs you blind. |
1) Elon is not an elecxted official. 2) he has ZERO role in the US government 3) his allegiance is to Putin, not the US or the US government 4) there is no proof of anything he says 5) the trasury's job is to effectuate what the Congress authorizes. 6) the treasury isn;t there to question the appropriations being made, but to be the technical clearinghouse 7) Elon now controls how US money is transferred including all federal pensions, social security etc 8) elon can now effect how US money on the private sector is transferred. Don't like Trump? Your money is frozen. There is a tweet from 2021 thanking Biden for something? Your money is frozen. Do people get this? |
Way to go, MAGA. We told you this was going to happen but no - you got all wrapped in drag story time at the libraries. |
You have backed a lie. Trump and Musk are going to sink this country. |
Elon is an ignorant lunatic. Treasury is the payer, not the approver. Every Department has its own redundant bureaucracy for budgets, contracts, authorizations, approvals, etc. because they are the experts for their program areas. It would be idiotic for Treasury to be the approval authority for programs they know nothing about. Treasury is just the finance office. |
And obviously the problem (amongst everything you just listed) is who is going to enforce him making a payment? Congress? The courts? Trump can and will just ignore it all. How is anybody here defending this as fine? |
I have little doubt that the treasury and people's personal info including SS numbers will be hacked due to Elon after his access to OPM was already easily compromised. Guess you wanted a poorly vetted, not elected, not cleared nutcase to access your personal info, but not me. |
Fraud and abuse is very difficult to find (especially at that volume of data) and is a very involved process. You don't know what you're talking about. |
They eff with any of my data, I'm out there with a baseball bat. FU Musk, you stupid looking half dead freak. |
I daresay all of you are completely missing the point. MAGA is very happy about this. Because it confirms their views that there is substantial wasteful spending going nowhere useful, whether for mysterious overseas aid programs or studying trans issues at some college. These payments highlight payments that would be legal and under directives but you are overlooking the demands to know why we are even making those payments in the first place.
And one of the major problems (in the eyes of MAGA/DOGE) is that the bureaucracy is so vast that there is little accountability and oversight of unelected bureaucrats, who did manage to have powers to make decisions and approve funding for this and that that wasn't directly related to specific Congressional edicts. Remember Chevron? It allowed unelected bureaucrats to come up with regulations on its own. And now Chevron has been struck down. Even with COVID, who authorized US grants to WIV in the first place and why? Where's the accountability there? Congress doesn't know where all the money is being spent, the White House doesn't know where all the money is being spent. With a 36 trillion deficit and massive deficit spending, things can't go on the way they have. I don't doubt we will come across many more $50M for condoms for Gaza type stories. And unfortunately there will be "aid" that effectively ended up in the pockets of local tyrants and terrorist groups. And I don't doubt that a major reason behind Musk's interest in all the Federal IT systems it related to figuring out where every penny is going and the records kept across separate systems that makes it difficult to audit thoroughly. Hasn't the Pentagon failed audits for so many years? Yes, I agree it seems like a sledgehammer is being taken to the federal bureaucracy and I am sympathetic for people for whom this must seem like an entire world and way of life is falling apart overnight. But I do understand why this is happening. |
There is an easy answer for why the money is being spent - because Congress passed laws requiring it to be spent. MAGA can have their reasons for being happy about this. That doesn't remotely make this ok. |
I assume Treasury has controls to make sure the approvals coming from the programs, though. It’s true they don’t make their own determinations but have to ensure the approval below was correct. But whatever the controls are, they have to be highly confidential. You generally don’t hear much about payment processing mistakes by the US Gov. |
