My suspicion is that they will just start shutting off payments to Federal employees. They won't be able to fire them because the - duh - the law has a specific process and the government has obligated itself via contract law.

From there, the dominos start falling fast.

This will be seen as an event of default of the US Government and the credit rating will tank. Interest rates shoot up and you have a full-on mega recession - loan delinquencies, bank failures, inflation, etc.

This is much bigger news than the plane crash. Why isn't this all over the front page of the media? An non-govt entity is gaining control over the entire country's bank account. This is a grave and extremely serious threat to national security and the financial stability of the United States. Forget the crash for now. That needs to be on the 2nd page. This is horrific. Where in the hell is Congress?

The problem is, the access being commandeered impacts ALL banks, ALL brokerage accounts, ALL federal distributions. So basically, Elon would be able to shut down the US money and baking system including each of our personal, retirement, business and brokerage accounts.

People congress will only act when their phones ring off the hook from constituents and donors. Look at how quickly the Trump admin backed off the federal grant freeze. It wasn’t congress stepping up to do what is right for democracy, the law and the country. Hell no. It was soccer moms in swing states pooping their pants that college loans and grants were gone and boomers freaked out about Medicaid and services.
