NW ~$10 mil also.
Low key. Grew up MC. Pulled myself up by my bootstraps. Never worry about money anymore and grateful for it. Still work hard but on my own terms and love it, not burnt out. Never flaunt it though so that keeps expenses down naturally because I buy what I like/want, not what other people have. My job and house are a tell but I don't care, not trying to necessarily hide it either. |
+1 Our real estate and vacations are definately not "low key". But we don't flaunt it. We spend on what we want, are very generous with our friends. For us, it's just how we live. |
I’m 100% like you! I had some real rollercoaster experiences growing up as wealthy-adjacent (UMC) and then not wealthy at all (MC), and now back to UMC, maybe could someday be wealthy. But my priority is that my children have a good education and don’t feel this horrible pressure to keep up with the Joneses. That being said, I hope I’m making the right choices. But no, not flashy, at all, drive a dented minivan much of the time, but do have some nice jewelry. Try to wear decent clothes but tbh love the value of Costco clothes, so my soul is not flashy. |
I do not look at or care about people’s watches ever. How many people really do? |
I think it’s a non-white + middle eastern (cause they are considered Caucasian) male flex TBH |
| Yes, I only wear CLEAR nail polish on short, NATURAL nails, like all low-key wealthy people with good taste. |
Hahaha I love this crossover post - good job PP |
| A mix I guess. We stay in our first home (worth 900K), our HHI will cross $1M next year. We did have bathrooms remodeled and will eventually remodel kitchen. Kids are in public school, but I do like nice things - have a couple of Hermes bags (not the birkin/kelly/constance/picotin, I dont think most people recognize the bags). wear 22K gold jewelery, diamond studs, travel to Europe almost every year and one trip to caribbean. I stopped posting on social media 10 years ago, but dont lie where we are vacationing when people ask me. Own two cars, a new BMW X3 (mid price luxury) and a 12 year old BMW (probably worth 5K at this point). NW almost $7M. DH does wear his Omega and his JLC. Someone can also look at our linkedin and guess our HHI, we both are in tech. Most friends are in tech, so they know the salary ranges. I do think there is no glory in hiding wealth, if you really do enjoy luxuries. We buy things because we like them and want to wear/own/experience them not to do any "status signaling". I am not going to "deprive" myself, just because some/all people think that I am flaunting my money. We save plenty |
Similar here. NW about 7M, HHI 1.2M, house worth about 1.3M. I'd be surprised if anyone on our block made more than us, but I'd also be surprised if they thought we make as much as we do. The ways that we "show" our wealth aren't especially conspicuous. If you visit our house, it's very tidy and put-together. And we take annual vacations abroad. But otherwise I don't think anything is terribly obvious. I grew up with absolutely nothing and have a reflexive distaste for showing off wealth. |
You are surrounded by broke people 7M NW doesn't make you special. |
Watch people. My DH is into watches and he notices other peoples. I could not tell you anything about them and I never notice. For him it’s like an important life talisman or something. I don’t mind, there are way dumber expensive things to get into. |
you don't have a nice home if your windows only cost $35K. just saying... |
Yeah, real wealth should pay 35K/window, lol. Like Warren Buffett said, "invest in the windows" or go home! |

I don’t understand this thread, nobody picks a car based on whether or not it is “low key” for wealth, they just buy a car they like and can afford. Some people like car stuff a lot more than other people. But the person who sees no reason to buy something more expensive than a Toyota surely has other stuff they care about and want to spend money on.
The fun part about having extra money is pursuing/supporting the things you like and/or are passionate about. And being reasonably comfortable. So people will spend on comfort and what they like. I don’t think they care about being “low key” or not. |
Well, tbh, I do. I come from a country with lots of wealth disparity, people need security etc. I do not want a car that draws attention. So, I love some beautiful expensive cars and can afford them, but I do not buy them. Buy a nice Toyota or Honda and call it a day. I know it’s overkill but the peace of mind is worth it to me. |
