College and University Discussion

Can I ask a dumb question? I love everyone and I want peace for everyone.
Why is antisemitism a word? Or one that is actively used? All groups face discrimination. I live in NYC and I have seen such a resistance to calling incidents hate crimes, when the victim is of a certain group. A few years ago there was this awful attack on an Asian Jazz pianist, and NYPD wouldn't say it was a hate crime when it was totally obvious why he was targeted. I'm confused about why society is quick to say - antisemitism! This is awful! But we don't do the same for others. And this may be part of the basis for why some are shocked by the lack of sympathy. That feeling of- ok, but not only your group matters. I literally see Facebook posts from Jewish friends that say... No other group is hurt like this! Like, really? |
| In this climate might colleges be inclined ro admit fewer Jewish students? |
Are you really trying to "All Lives Matter" this? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisemitism After a few centuries of consistent behavior across multiple culture and continents, humans make up words to describe concepts for use in conversations. Jews are unusual in how they have been hated across so much of the world, while still surviving and fighting back. Most genocides are more one-sided. Jews also inspired the worlds first and most extensive industrialized and bureaucratrized genocide, where humans' bodies were harvested like Native Americans used every part of the buffalo. Asian Americans have a less catchy term "Asian hate". We also have misogyny, misandry. Muslims have Islamophobia. Gays have homophobia. Transgender has transphobia. Chinese have Sinophobia. |
Not specifically because Jewish (and religion in general) isn't one of the official government diversity check boxes. Certainly some AO staffers are racist. |
| Nope nothing will change |
| …but wondering if given how inflamed things are right now I kind if wonder if schools might strategically just avoid building or strenghtening the Jewish community in campus at this time…•like just stay away from all of it. |
Of course not |
They're deranged and racist. They like to center themselves. This thread is Exhibit A. |
Oh yah, because the universities in the south and midwest are known for fostering diversity and open mindedness. Pleeeaz. |
+1. Thank you for a sane reply in a sea of insanity. |
I feel enormous sympathy and judging by the polls, so do the majority of Americans. Loud weirdo progressives are still the minority thankfully. |
Young people say stupid stuff all the time while trying to figure things out. I think it’s cruel to end their dream and revoke their visa because they made an unfortunate comment. Odds are the American kids (who won the lottery at birth) have never and will never experience even 1% of the struggles students from a third or developing country have. |
lol “there choices” |
did you feel this way about the kids from Covington Catholic? Kyle Kashuv? He’ll, even some of the ramblings of teenage Brett Kavanaugh? I doubt it |
WilmerHale. There was an article in the NYT about it. |
