Will there be fewer applicants to Harvard, Penn, MIT next year?

Who counselled them on how to testify before the hearing? Those folks also screwed up big time.

My guess is the presidents didn’t want to listen or didn’t think they needed counseling.

That’s nice. But MIT may be in the biggest trouble, because they admitted that they did not follow through with discipline for students violating school rules because they might face visa issues. The biggest legal issue these schools face isn’t based on the 1st Amendment, but rather Civil Rights Act Title VI disparate treatment. If nothing else, the President should be fired for being stupid enough to put something like that in writing. I think the decision itself should be a firing offense, but who is dumb enough to admit it?

I don't see the issue here at all. Kids protested in a part of campus that MIT, internally, says is off limits. The punishment is decided by them. How is this a civil rights issue at all?

Still, can someone please explain how calling for the firing of a Jewish President makes any sense? Are people saying she's antisemitic?

Cancellation culture at it's best!

Applications unchanged. Donations down. Corporate America impression Down.

Honestly it is about time. This attitude is the same way they run admissions - it’s their entire philosophy as an entity - Now people are starting to object. Late in my book but something. The schools are a disgrace to American values. I promise you at Pearl Harbor they would have bemoaned the poor oppressed Japanese who were forced to take action against imperial America. If you are looking for someone to sit. The death warrant of America, look no further than our esteemed Ivy League. Heads so far up there you know what they stopped making sense years ago. And I’m not a rabid republican. I was a registered democrat for 24 years until I saw what they had become and switched to independent the last 8 years. God help us with these choices.

Will there be fewer threads?

No, clearly not.

Yep, applications will be up, sorry.

I think a lot will go to the state flagships.

We prefer to hire students from state flagships.

Oh yeah, which one did you attend?

I’m not the PP and not Jewish but I went to HYS and I agree with the sentiment.

A kid wearing a yarmulke risks physical harm on many of the elite colleges now. A kid wearing a keffiyeh, even one that had no idea what sea the phrase is talking about, will get high fives and probably easier grading. It’s loathsome.

You are nuts. Palestinian students literally got shot walking down the street in VT. It’s ridiculous to act like all Jewish people are victims. Would you feel safer if you were an AA? I don’t think so.

Being a victim is not reserved for one ethnic group.

+100 and not caving to money bribes (donations)

I will just repost what I posted earlier in response:
You obviously don't understand what free speech actually means. You should read the definition then listen to what was said. Calls for genocide of an ethnic group is not protected speech. Saying you hate an ethnic group is protected. Telling people to kill them is not.

But wasn't it that the question first conflated "intifada" with "genocide" which intifada doesn't mean--it means uprising. Just like claiming that the phrase the "river to the sea" doesn't mean that the students are calling for genocide from the river to the sea. That's why these were "gotcha" question because the presidents are responding to a moments-earlier conflation, while the immediate question is about a hypothetical situation where the students actually called for genocide. I think the presidents didn't perform great because they should have known better about the aims of who they were dealing with and that you have to expect that want matters is the 10 second clip, not the 30 second clip.

All three should have been able to handle that situation and in fact should have expected it. They obviously walked into the hearing without sufficient preparation and with a good deal of arrogance. I think they expected the fawning that is probably their day-to-day experience.

Cue the VAR. Anyone watching more than a few seconds of the hearing has moved on.

DP. Not me. The presidents handled the testimony badly. No way around that.

+1. I stopped my harvard donations.

Why give money to Harvard in the first place? They don’t need any money

Those schools are so well-endowed that they will not miss your donation at all.

College Presidents, even at Ivies, are measured by their ability to raise money. They will also miss the businesses that stop coming to interview and give internships to their students.

College presidents can always be replaced and the students don't care who signs their diploma. Corporations won't stop going to Harvard, Ivies or MIT or Stanford.

Does anyone have a link with information on people calling for a genocide ? Was it students protesting?

I’ve read articles and have seen the pictures but only see signs that say stop the genocide of Palestinians and Free Palestine.

I think it’s upset Jewish Americans for Americans to have so much more sympathy for Palestinians. (Except the Jews for Peace org ).

Israel has crossed too many lines with weak excuses. The majority of Palestinian homes have been destroyed . Thousands killed, babies crushed to death and they are trying to push the Palestinians out of their little area not so they won’t have to let them back in. All the Palestinians have left is hate for the people who did this to them.

And Harvard has billions, no one needs to care about their problems.

Of course nobody accused of calling for a genocide (of the Jews, anyway) has actually said anything of the sort. Rather, their words expressing either compassion for the plight of the Palestinians or opposition to the inhumane war crimes of the State of Israel have been put through the Perpetual Victim 9000 distortion translator and surprise, surprise ... what they REALLY meant was anti-semitic, was celebrating Hamas and their 10/7 atrocities, was calling for the annihilation of Jews, was trying to incite attacks against the U.S., etc.

Meanwhile, plenty of people including Stu Seldowitz, the psycho pediatric cardiologist at JHU, and a few rounding errors here in these threads sure seem to be cheering on an actual genocide in progress, but of the Palestinians).

And you're right. It HAS enraged the racist, apartheid-supporting Zionist segment of American and worldwide Jewry who are so accustomed to occupying all the seats at the all-you-can-eat "Guilt Trip" buffet.

I can't believe Jewish people have fumbled the bag so much. Any sympathy they had about the attack has been squandered by their reactions to it. Not just the state of Isreal but Jewish American celebrites and donors. No one feels sympathy anymore.

I still feel sympathy. It was an unthinkable tragedy.

Most people who are Jewish aren’t making outlandish claims.
