He is done. Every state where abortion has been on the ballot has voted to uphold abortion rights. He is on record as wanting to take away bodily autonomy. Move on.

Besides, I’m not seeing a situation where Trump voters choose him over Trump in the primary.

His only hope is Trump wins and makes him like secretary of the treasury or some shit like that.

If, god forbid, trump wins next year, he is going to surround himself only with mega maga absolute loyalists and he is not loyalist enough

My Wash Post page is acting up for me this a.m. but there is a post about this. It claims a) Trumps odds of winning are increasing and b) the plans being OPENLY discussed by him/his advisors and which are plainly fascist.

This includes purging govt workers and installing those who are loyal to him, invoking the Insurrection Act to quell protests, and more. As well as pardoning and apologizing to those convicted of J6 insurrection.

He is TELLING US he will try to dismantle our democracy. Y'all need to listen to him.

I agree and don't get why people are still interested in voting for him. It seems nuts. He's not even keeping these plans a secret. It's like, all written down and publicized and yet still, people think this is a good choice. I will never understand it.

Watch what they say. On a related thread yesterday (Project 2025 I think) there was at least one person who called the threat “unrealistic” and someone who clearly supports it. So you have people in gentle denial (who will still vote Republican even though they said it was unrealistic that the GOP would overturn Roe) and people who have always supported the GOP with their full chest and who have always been authoritarian and un-American.

Biden’s moderate approach to Israel didn’t siphon off voters despite what all the far left was screaming about. Banning trans healthcare for kids didn’t win, and I say this as someone who thinks medicalized transition for children is a serious medical scandal but who also feels very strongly that it’s extremely inappropriate for legislators to interfere with medical care (including abortion). Abortion rights were a huge winner and I was afraid that issue had faded out of view. J6 wasn’t diminished in importance. Election deniers lost badly. Youngkin was rebuffed squarely in his attempt to become more MAGA and will hopefully return to being a RINO Republican and then eventually lose entirely (I think he is smarmy).

Essentially these results are an endorsement of some badly needed moderates. It’s a relief.

Your posting twin said the same thing a few pages back and I’ll say the same thing in reply to you: the extremist GOP worldview is being repudiated. You don’t need to both sides this, people just don’t want what the GOP is pushing.

One might think the media would get a clue after today but I’m not holding my breath.

Democrats had a great night!

Here’s why it’s bad for the Democrats.

It's the "people don't care about good news" mentality in the media. It's like they care more about the horse race and the drama than they do about the betterment of the nation.

Stop. both. sidesing. this. Had the situations of the parties been reversed last night, we would be treated to trumpets and chariots about how Trump is for sure winning in 2024 and how this is a new morning in America for the Republicans.

But instead the Democrats basically won it all last night and “Democrats won in the following limited skirmishes that will have no bearing on anything in 2024.”

The media is working for the GOP.

I haven't followed KY politics enough .. what lessons are there to learn from Beshear? The state is obviously still red as can be. What messaging is getting through from him to otherwise Trumpian supporters?

Saw this ad on Morning Joe this morning and it made me tear up. God bless this incredibly brave young lady.

+1

“Brave” doesn’t do her justice. Good for her coming forward and speaking out.

Total turnout in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court race is already 3.1 million. It was 2.8 million in 2021 and 2.1 million in 2017. Democrats swept all of the court races and Dan McCaffery won the open Supreme Court seat. Margin currently six points.

The Biden campaign should really put this phrase on a coffee mug or bumper sticker.

This is no less insane when Ds claim it than Rs. By parroting stuff like this, you are actually helping to feed the beast. Yes, most news outlets are at least somewhat partisan in some way. No, “the media” is not working for the GOP. There are plenty of outlets with a liberal perspective (full on: Mother Jones; significant: MSNBC; some: NPR). The media is not a monolith that is all equally reliable or all on one side and it isn’t helpful to pretend it is.

“I don’t get it. I thought that making women second class citizens in their own country and telling them what they can and can’t do with their own bodies was a winning strategy.”

- Republicans, this morning.

Moms for Liberty either directly endorsed or promoted school board candidates in six states — Alaska, Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia — yet lost a bulk of those races with the exception of two in Alaska. M4L had a slate of candidates win elections in Bucks County, Pennsylvania in 2021, but the extreme nature of the group prompted most candidates seeking reelection to ask M4L to not explicitly endorse them. Still, the five Republicans running for the Central Bucks School District that M4L "recommended" voters cast ballots for were swept by Democrats.

You can’t deny that most of the major outlets are carrying water for Trump/MAGA.

amazingly, the "blue wave" last night hit deep in terms of school board races and other hyperlocal elections, even in very red areas like Iowa and Minnesota's Apple Valley which is very Trumpy.

My siblings and I still use “thanks, Obama” as a nonsense joke when literally anything happens.
