At least 8 people shot & killed in Allen, TX mall today

It’s been a quiet weekend. Any shootings today?

It's a 2-for-1, which makes it all disheartening that anything will ever get better. The Right Wing internet/tv machines enflames the rage, while their politicians are making access to guns (and the ability to open carry) easier and easier. They're collectively providing the fuel and the flame, and it's going to get a hell of a lot worse.

You are right. It will get worse.

I grew up close to Allen. No one from DC will take guns away from the people who live there, and it is unlikely anyone from Austin will, either.

I am in my late 40s. The men I grew up with have been hunting deer, quail, ducks, etc., since they were 11 or 12. They are way more comfortable with using firearms than anyone I know here that has not served in the armed forces, For every person you hear complaining about their access to guns, there is someone there talking about Washington starting a problem they are left to fix it.

Simply, they do not believe anyone in this part of the country listens to them, so they have no desire to listen to someone who is not their own. And the influx of people from CA, NYS, etc. only reinforces their belief that they are living like the rest of America should.

I see it in my own husband....Not the violins but the seclusion. When we first got married he met with few friends a few times a month. I love that about him that he would just hang out, go to a game or whatever. But as we've been together for 20 years, I don't think I could name one friend that he actually talks to more than once a year. Typically just wishing them. Happy birthday via text. Does not play any sports. He works from home and I do all of the shopping. I mean he'll go out with us as a family but independently he has no personality or life outside of his computer where he does his work. Just minimal contact with any of his colleagues after COVID.

The world is full of men like your DH. The difference is in other countries, they don’t all have easy access to such deadly weapons.

other countries have acid attacks.

Idiot in the house!

Apparently something you didn't want to hear. Just close your eyes, cover your ears and yell LA LA LA

Come back to us when acid attacks have killed or maimed even a quarter as many people as guns have.

You are welcome to move to Mexico where the homicide rate is 5x or more per capita than the US and guns are strictly regulated and AR-15's are illegal. The boarder is open have fun.

We used to have a proper country. Now, being better than narcostates is the bar Republicans set for greatness.

Uh oh.

AR-15s are easy to get. Google "buy AR-15."

When's the next mass shooting? I know "this coming week" is the obvious answer, but today is still early.

You say all this just because they are for sale doesn't mean YOU can own one. More than likely you are just mad you can't pass the background check to get one so want everyone else disarmed.

Plenty of crazy people can go out and buy a car with cash and run people over, no background check required. A vehicle is a way more effective killer than a gun, the results are more gruesome as well. No hurdles to jump though to verify if your are a felon, have a Domestic Violence incident, or mentally ill. You are free to go to a gun store, plop down the cash and walk out without completing the background check. Feel free to video this along with the next 24 hours of your life to show people how easy it was.

Until you do this your are throwing out BS hoping it sticks. People that own guns know the difference, people that follow the MSM blindly are too stupid to use just the one brain cell it would take to know the truth.

Interesting. Great cultures were not built by wholesale rejection of new ideas. In fact it's the opposite throughout civilization. Just saying. I am sure most Texans would fly to CA or NY in a heartbeat in order to take advantage of cutting edge medical technology in the event that they need it. I'll bet they would listen to someone who is "not their own". I'll bet they are listening to many, many people who are helping them change their electric grid infrastructure and that many of those people do not live in Texas. I am willing to bet that the influx of people from CA and NYS are highly educated people who are helping to build up their state and their state's economy. Texans may be "independent" by nature, but I doubt this "independence" extends to every facet of their lives.

Mass shootings have happened in states like CA where it is more difficult to purchase a gun.

Mental healthcare is important, but it won’t be enough either. The parents of the recent TN shooter were on top of their kid’s mental health. Nonetheless…

We need to find a way for people who are truly worried about individuals to flag them so they can’t access guns and any weapons they already have can be taken away. Sadly, even that isn’t foolproof.

And remember: while mass shootings are the most terrifying since anyone could be at the wrong place at the wrong time, most shootings are suicides and individual run of the mill violence. Both tend to involve basic hand guns.

It’s all bad. The genie is out of the bottle. There’s no easy solution.

When the AWB was in place, mass shootings went down significantly. When it expired, mass shootings shot up through the roof.
Would an AWB stop all mass shootings? No. But it WOULD stop quite a few of them.

Even though it's a partial and imperfect solution, do not let perfect be the enemy of good.
We need to reinstate an AWB, ALONG WITH pursuing other measures.

This has been proven false over and over, repeating the lies from the gun grabbers doesn't make it true.

Here’s an easy mental health test. The kind of people who want to own assault weapons are the exact people we shouldn’t be selling them to. Has anyone ever given a reasonable explanation as to why civilians need to own military grade assault weapons? You can’t hunt with them. You don’t need an assault weapon to kill a single intruder. No, assault weapons are only for killing many people very quickly. Red flag right there.

The people that shouldn't own them are the people that want them banned, like the mentally ill KY Trump hating bank shooter.

I guess you know know how to search the internet, plenty of animals have been taken by an AR-15 including invasive hogs that have killed people and ruining farmers crops, then also reducing the deer and other animal populations because they have become a problem.

When all the democratic cities release the felons with no bail, your going to have a group of people invade your home. You will need to thank yourself in advance because when they come kill you and your family it will be more difficult to tell yourself that after the fact.

Chicago has had over 88 mass shootings this year, Texas has had 17. Until I see the outrage of the victims in Chicago then everything else is just believing all the MSM hype or conformation bias has taking over any rational thinking abilities.

Yes. Lots of changes have resulted from lawsuits against industry. Tobacco, cars, pharmaceuticals, fast food, etc. The gun industry is way way overdue for their turn.

Someone at the party was the first to receive a text from a relative in law enforcement who flagged the active shooter situation and told them to stay away.

FTR, I’m a DC metro area native who was just in town for a visit. My relative hosting me in TX is a transplant who has lived her for 10+ years. This area is affluent and purple with a growing transplant community from CA, IL, and the East Coast. This is not a conservative bastion of gun nuts.

I think it’s interesting how some deflect the reality of violence off on “other communities.” We have shootings in the dc metro area, too. I’m not sure what the solution is when so many weapons are already in the community—in all communities…including those with strict gun laws.

I suspect we will learn the shooter was a loner with mental health issues. Perhaps we need more focus on how to flag and intervene when there are concerns about such people? Slippery slope.

FTR, I’m for the strictest gun control measures. I’m just not optimistic they will actually prevent tragic events like this. Crazy angry people intent on murdering people will always find a way. What strategies will work?

Why isn’t anyone ever addressing the source of the rage in killers?

For what purpose? In my brief reading of what this guy was putting in the public sphere he basically seems mad that he (and people like him) are not in charge of everything.

The internet has made it easy for disturbed losers to find some victimhood conspiracy ideology to latch onto as justification and encouragement to direct their anger into violence against innocent people.

Almost everybody would fly somewhere in a heartbeat to take advantage of life-saving medical technology. Many from CA and NYS fly to Houston yearly to take advantage of MD Anderson's cutting-edge medical technology. How does traveling to get the best medical attention you can afford apply to gun ownership in and around Allen, Texas?

Are you saying that Texans would listen to what an out-of-state power grid contractor has to say about gun control? Really?

I will take your bet regarding people from CA or NYS "helping" to build up the state. Native Texans almost universally hate these people. I will ask you the question Texans ask people who move to Texas and then advocate changing Texas laws: "If the laws (or whatever) are so great in CA (or NYS), WTF did you move here?"

My point remains. There is no chance that the people of South Texas will comply with a mandate they perceive to be "from Washington" regarding their ownership and use of firearms. Even more, who would enforce such a mandate? Would you join a law enforcement agency to travel to Brownsville to confiscate guns? You would quickly find out how "independent" they are regarding this "facet of their lives."

If you want to make a change, focus on CT (where Sandy Hook is located) or VA first. Stop gun-related crimes here and then maybe the message will be heard elsewhere.

How were invasive hogs and deer handled before AR-15's? Were we fighting a losing battle against the hog prior?
