Billionaire heiress abducted during her Friday morning run in Memphis

The victim blaming and judging is strong on this thread?

What is wrong with working? I don't have tattoos but
they are not that unusual today. They are pretty common on males. What is wrong with military service? What is wrong with selling boats? The guys working at the camper store up the road from me make close to +175,000 selling campers.

The high net worth families that I know all have very strong work ethics for their family members and for their kids.

Do you ever ask why fathers work (if they don't have to???)

Many people want to spend their most productive years doing more than making meals, cleaning a house and doing child care. (Or for a richer person, supervising staff, choosing fabric and resort getaways).

I admire her for trying to contribute to society and form an identity that is not attached to her successful ancestors.

If she was male, you would probably describe her very differently.

(And this scenario is quite common. I have known teachers and social workers who absolutely did not have to work.)

What STRANGE phrasing. "Doing child care" ... you mean raising your very young children? Quite literally the most fulfilling job a woman can have.

Running at 4am doesn't make any sense, even with the pre-k job. There's nothing preventing her from running at a more reasonable 6am or 7am. Or doing it at the campus athletic center.

Is your husband a recovering addict? Tattoos on his arms, legs, and even fingers? Works at a boat shop?

I assure you everyone in the family's orbit was wondering what in the hell she was doing with this guy.

Am I missing something - is this guy that was arrested purported to have ties with the husband?

It’s not uncommon for runners training for marathons during the summer to start this early to get their long runs in, especially in a place known for extreme heat and humidity. I don’t know that she was doing this, but it’s not out of the question.

Folks getting irritated at the husband "letting" her run at 4am in one of the most lawless towns in the U.S. is interesting. Is it okay for your husband to go have beers for an hour after work and drive home? Is it okay for him to skydive every weekend? Or maybe take up bullriding? Of course not. You'd push back on all of that because you're his wife, he's the father of your children. Just as this "man" should have pushed back on her nutty 4am running routine. At the very least, he's clearly no southern gentleman, that's for sure.

I think the wackos from the BRF threads have found this thread. It's really appalling, what they're saying about this couple. I'm sure it would be fun to turn the spotlight on their (the wackos) lives. No doubt, a hot mess, as evidenced by all the projecting.

Suffice to say it's an eye-opener. Memphis is consistently in the top 10 most dangerous cities in America. Look at where she was abducted and her running route in general.

+1 very dangerous city

No husband worth a damn is letting his young wife run around that hellhole city at 4am.

Not okay in a place like that area of Memphis. I feel sick and very sad that she was so naive and vulnerable.

Public record shows they paid $600k for a charming 3k sq/ft cape cod style home a couple years ago. Pretty big money for Memphis. And not a home you can afford on just a pre-k teacher’s salary. Near the university and a couple golf courses, which seems like the concentrated pocket of wealth for the otherwise downtrodden city.

It’s really not. A simple Zillow search will show you hundreds of houses that sold for more (in many cases, much more) than $600k in the area immediately surrounding the University of Memphis in the past couple of years.

Median home in Memphis is $200k, per capita income in $26k. It's a downtrodden lawless town. Their house now zillows for $750k. Please find me pre-k teachers (<$50k salary) and "boat salesman" ( ) who have $750k homes and brand new $100k Jeep SUVs without access to a trust fund.

I’m just saying, for a true billionaire heiress, with the kind of money that could convince the local university to open their gym early just for you ( ), as some posters insist, she could have had her pick of much, much nicer houses. Plenty of people are spending $1M+ in this apparently downtrodden town.

But she didn't want to. She's not you. Her values are different, clearly.

I don’t know anything about her values, nor do you know mine. I’m just saying this particular area of Memphis is not the lawless hell hole many are portraying it to be.

DCUM hates tattoos. Not “classy.”

It's not just the tattoos and it's not like he has just one inconspicuous tattoo. He has very sketchy sleeve tattoos, tattoos on his knee and calve, on his chest, even on his hands. And he's an admitted substance abuser. And he looks disheveled.
