Mainstream what?

The mainstream of voter sentiment, perhaps?

Voters love teachers and vote as teachers tell them to vote.

The MCEA loves their Apple Ballot candidates that push through extra time off for employees at a time students need face to face instruction.

Parents should boycott voting for the Apple Ballot if you want independent decision making and oversight of MCPS by the Board of Ed.

I'll make my voting decisions independently, thank you.

Agreed. I am so sick of the small minority of parents who think they run the county with their “advocacy”. They act like we should all be so thankful for all that they do. I’m sorry- you don’t speak for me so please stop acting like anyone owes you anything. These parents know who they are. They are even worse because they bully others who don’t fall in line.

Agree. 100%. This was evident with the busing plan they tried to ram through. These east county progressives said that increasing diversity was the most important thing they could do for the students. 90% of the county disagrees with them when they were asked in the boundary analysis.

Sigh. This again? 90% of a few self-selected respondents.

Sigh. You again?

When parents remain silent or don't participate, you claim that MCPS is acting on their behalf.

When parents speak up, but whenever a fact doesn't go your way, your only recourse is to try to discredit or disregard the result. This is a sign of desperation when caught in a hopeless argument. it's sad and pathetic, so stop embarrassing yourself.

Finally, if you think that bussing is a good idea, see what happens when the Maryland Delegates switch over to Republican majority in protest and see if your budget changes any. Think that will never happen? Virginia thought so too! I'm a registered Democratic voter who voted against Trump and if bussing kicks in, guess who I'm voting for!

Oh, and I'm a different poster than the person you were arguing with.. so don't further embarrass yourself by thinking otherwise.

I also ignore the nutjobs in these threads and VOTE APPLE BALLOT!!

Actually that's a pretty irresponsible way to vote. If you really care about schools, learn about the candidates and choose the one you think is best. A lot of the times there won't be a better option than the Apple Ballot, but sometimes there is. The interests of MCEA are not the same as those of students. And that is fine but parents need to vote with that in mind.

BTW the BOE does not decide how much funding there is for schools. So the Apple Ballot candidates cannot get more money for students. They can play a role in deciding how much money goes to compensation increases for teachers vs hiring more staff/funding service improvements.

Not really. I vote my conscience as do 90% of the public who reelect these BoE members by a landslide. It's because unlike many of the people posting here we can see the bigger picture and realize they're doing a fine job.

If all you do is vote the Apple Ballot then you don't know what you are voting for. If your conscience is telling you to be an uninformed voter , then congrats, mission accomplished.

On the contrary, if you don't vote Apple Ballot, you are backing kooky extremists who want to dismantle public education.

You realize the current board members drove 7,000 students out of MCPS, don't you?

That is often true, but not always. And people who don't even bother to check if there are alternatives between anti-education extremists and candidates that will prioritize teachers over students (yes, that is a thing, there are important decisions to be made between compensation and service improvements and the unions will always push for compensation above everything else), make it very difficult for those alternatives to stand a chance.

So you think me wanting voters to learn about the candidates makes me an "arch-conservative" or a "paid astroturfer"? Wow, the union is getting desperate.

Good riddance! Bye to those families. No one cares.

I'm sure MCEA will care when MOE and state aid are less than what they want because both depend on enrollment.

Huh? lol. If you think that people who don't vote for the current board are "malcontents", I think you've got it backwards. Most voters COULDN'T CARE LESS who sits on the BOE. They don't know their names or even bother to vote (which is why the Apple Ballot tends to win, since that's mostly teachers and staff voting). That's what normally happens - at least until parents get pissed off. Then, all of a sudden, voter interest takes root. I love how you completely ignored what happened in Virginia? So keep singing your tune, baby. You'll drive the State straight into the Republican's open arms! And after that happens, I'm curious what will happen to the MCPS budget and bussing and "equity" initiatives? And then EVERYONE will know the names of the BOE that made the shift in power to the Republicans happen!
