US has no good options in Ukraine

He's human and, therefore, probably has some human skeletons in his closet. Additionally, his interests and those of Ukraine aren't entirely aligned with those of the U.S. So, one day, it wouldn't be at all surprising if he ended up acting in ways that aren't in the best interest of the U.S. Which is perfectly rational, but the heroic accolades might not hold up so well when that time comes to pass.

Oh Please.

STFU

He probably ignores his wife, yells at his kids, doesn't put the toilet seat down or put his dirty dishes in the dishwasher. So what?

In this instance, Zelensky has shown himself to be a true hero, just as Sully Sullenberger is a hero.

Zelensky has put himself in danger to protect others. He's leading in an impossible situation. He's kept his head when lesser men would panic. He's exactly the right man for the job he's facing. Who cares about anything else he does in the future. Right now he's a true hero deserving of admiration.

Biden has played this the right way.
He didn’t strong arm the rest of NATO.
He also didn’t try to put all the responsibilities on the US.
He listened to intelligence and then actually did something useful with it.
He gave the EU countries the time to get with the program.

He is your hero as long as Russia doesn't aim their missiles towards the US.. Or as long as they don't target your area with the massive cyber attacks to make it uninhabitable for a while. Once your kids are cold and hungry, we will see how you will cheer foreign officials bravery that may drag us into a war we were trying to avoid for many decades. I will admire from afar.. as long as we don't get deeply involved

Russia doesn’t get the rusted doors of their silos open before we wipe them off the map

Our silos are rusted. Our missiles are slow, inaccurate and easily shot down. Russia has highly maneuverable hypersonic nuclear missiles against which we have no defense. https://www.military.com/equipment/weapons/why-russias-hypersonic-missiles-cant-be-seen-radar.html

For the billionth time poster. Russia has no hypersonics. None. Not a one. None are operational Our nukes are the most accurate in the world by far. Our nukes are at least 4 generations ahead of Russia today.
In any event you cannot get past our subs.

+1 I don’t know what alternate reality posters are living in. We outspend every other country by billions.
Where do you all think that defense budget is going? Finding articles drumming up fear to keep those sweet dollars flowing doesn’t change the fact.
I’m not saying we wouldn’t see damage. We see ( rightfully) even 1 detonation as unacceptable. Putin does not likely share that sentiment.
He is an irrational actor.

Our military spending goes to salaries. Russia and China have hypersonic missiles. We don’t. https://www.ft.com/content/7d566088-7d25-4fde-9b02-311f86eb845e

25% goes to salary. that’s not most and even if it was, we’re still outspending everyone else.

Also: Russia has no hypersonics.

Frankly, I would die for Ukraine (I live in DC). So yes, I stand with Zelensky against insane bully monsters. They must go even if I die.

Great, I will buy you a one way ticket so that you could go die for Ukraine I am not willing to even lose a finger for them if it means that our country will be attacked and we have to live under the shadow of constant extermination threat. why do we care about this country so much more than other horrible places we had abandoned and condemned their residents to tortuous lives (hello, Afganistan?) Is this because you are more likely to die for European white people, because it's ok for brown people to suffer all over the world? You are all hypocrites.

It’s because this isn’t just going to remain a skirmish between Russia and Ukraine. And Putin is making threats of nuclear war. We don’t have the luxury of just letting this play out. Re: Afghanistan, if the Taliban does get access to nuclear weapons, that would be a whole different ball game. You just can’t compare these countries and say it’s about “brown people.”

Completely agree. Glad I voted for him.

Please, that's not reality. Putin united NATO. Biden admitted that SWIFT sanctions could not be implemented because he couldn't convince EU nations to go along. He admitted this openly. The NATO nations woke up because they realized that what has been repeatedly told to them has now come to pass, that their weak-kneed posturing on the global stage and flowery talks about peace and diplomacy is meaningless against an aggressive and ambitious enemy like Putin. They finally saw that the only way to protect themselves is through increased military spending because even Biden said the quiet part out loud that the west would do nothing if Putin just roughed up Ukraine a little bit.

Jesus dude. Take a breath and give credit where it's due. Time enough to shit on Democrats after Memorial Day.

? I didn't say anything about Democrats. Biden's weakness on this is his own.

Or, he called the EU out publicly to ramp up the pressure on them

AGAIN, reality: Biden admitted that EU refused to kick Russia out of SWIFT. Biden did not call them out and was trying to explain how the *other* sanctions are nearly as good. He was giving cover to the EU's refusal and only admitted that the EU refused to kick Russia out of SWIFT after repeatedly being asked by multiple reporters why this has not yet been done.

AGAIN, reality: following that revelation the European countries that were against kicking Russia out of SWIFT changed their minds and Russia got kicked out of SWIFT

Biden didn't call them out as claimed, that's my point. He was forced to admit it, as I stated.

Hilter and Japan hit both African and China. Don't think for a minute this will stay in Europe. There is a reason they were world wars. They will come for you as well.

Plenty of us see what a good job is being done.
Also- some of us think Robert Gates doesn’t have much of a track record
to lob insults at Biden.
