If it were just a few unhappy people posting in this thread, it wouldn’t have 50k+ page views

Now that is the tragedy. Spend 50k/year for your kid to go to school and can’t even brag about it.

If it were a top-tier private in DC it would. At Maret's current level, it will not be affected.

“Outraged parents and community members”?! Ha! Most people don’t care because Jelleff is always available for their kids’ rec soccer games. And most professional DC demagogues don’t live in the Jelleff area.

You underestimate the size of the opposition to this deal.

+1 Community members aren't going to forget that Maret pushed a backroom deal in the face of clear community opposition.

Maret’s belied is compared to outright corruption by the mayor and Evans, this is a tempest in a teapot.

Evans likely will step off the council. If Jelleff really matters to people, then vote Bowser out in the next primary election.

GDS is not hoarding public resources.

GDS tried to close a public street to add more space to “GDS-Harvard Square” or whatever they planned to call their private town center development. There was no offer to pay for the street closure.

Yes, GDS should pay dearly for the physical improvements they're making. They tore down a sad looking, failing Safeway store and, for shame, attempted to replace two, obsolete car dealership buildings with contemporary, mixed-use facilities. I miss the beauteous view of Babe's Billiards and will fight tooth and nail to protect the vestiges of Marten's Volvo and VW. They should bring back the cars that used to be parked on the grass, surrounding the VW building.

Pish. Posh. What’s a little corruption among the privileged?

Absolutely. We need another Tenley Commons. One CVS and several bank branches are not enough!

Did GDS ever promise to replace the Safeway after forcing it out?

I’m sure they’re quaking in their boots. But enjoy leading your social justice crusade from your basement. My kids don’t go to Maret but they play soccer a lot at Jelleff. I care more about DC picking up my trash than whether Maret teams can practice for a few hours a week. Yawn.

The problem is not Maret getting to practice; it’s about many other kids not having a place to play. But you know that and just enjoy being a jerk since your kids are all set.

Can’t one fairly say that Hardy parents knew that, too. That they wre signing up for an urban school. No playing fields. School uniforms. Security guards who act like they worked for the Department of Corrections. School grounds with way more hardscale than grass. Don’t blame your regrets and suboptimal choices on Maret kids. Sheesh.
