| Upgrades from where, richmond? |
After u12 development is replacing players and getting players stronger and in shape. Very few clubs/coaches are developing individual skills at u12/u13. |
Unrelated to the performance of VDA. VDA is an elite squad. They pool from the best players from both VSA and PWSI so obviously they're going to be good. My issues with 08G in PWC might lay more in some previous comments I've seen where people think NVSC and PWSI should merge or partner somehow similar to how PWSI/VSA is. PWSI for some reason or another doesn't seem to have numbers in terms of players and I'm not sure if that's due to how they operate or what it is but compared to NVSC PWSI does not have a great grassroots program. PWSI currently in 08G fields only one recreational team (and its not like theres a waiting list of players looking for coaches) in the SFL, one select team only, and two classic teams that I find irrelevant because those teams never actually look to recruit players. They seem more like a social experiment rather than a team looking to improve by being inviting to new players. Ultimately I'm just pointing out that other clubs and probably VSA/NVSC included have better options to bring players into their program than in the eastern part of PWC specifically talking about PWSI. |
It does appear as if PWSI and VSA will be trying something new for the U11/U12 age groups going forward for their 'A' teams. https://cdn1.sportngin.com/attachments/document/5b19-2412065/VDA-Pre-ECNL_-_2021-22.pdf |
| VSA is an isolated club market wise and their lower tiered teams are not affected when their players are moved to VDA. Rather they benefit of stealing players developed by NVSC. PWSI’s lower tiered teams on the other hand are affected after players move to VDA. |
I feel like this just reinforces my point. PWSI doesn't have the numbers in comparison to VSA so as they move their more talented players up and off to VDA their teams become a shell of themselves since there wasn't a lot to work with to begin with. Their 08G 'select' team for example. Competes in Virginia Premier League but as of a few weeks ago they haven't even won a game yet this season. They don't even have any teams led by club coaches that compete in NCSL for that age group. And as soon as they lose a few players to VDA who is next in line to shore up that team and keep it competitive? I just wonder why PWSI can't get numbers in their grassroots programs in comparison to VSA or NVSC that in turn could potentially move to a competitive option within the club. |
VSA is headed down this route as well. After 09 the #'s and talent pool is drying up. Most of the new construction is done that was helping VSA's #. |
This happens at U13 at clubs with ECNL. The teams have to be rebuilt. PWSI 08 has been doing it this year. VDA 09 will be heavily VSA so VSA will have to rebuild their 2009 team next year. It happens every year. PWSI did a good job of putting a coach in the age group that can rebuild it. Hopefully VSA does the same thing. |
I guess time will tell. I personally feel like VSA always contributes more to VDA usually as they just have higher numbers overall top to bottom compared to PWSI. I just wish it was the same for PWSI. |
VDA success is directly related to PWSI/VSA. |
PWSI has always had more vda players than vsa but it is getting closer to 50/50 now. |
That's interesting as I've heard it was the opposite but good to know. Still concerns me though. Clearly VDA has success due to being able to cherry pick players from VSA and PWSI and that in turn would have one say that because of success in those programs is the reason why VDA is a top tier team. But still my point stands where does that leave PWSI after all is said and done? Just looking at the va premier league does PWSI even have a team with a record of above .500? I didn't see one. VSA seems to still be competitive as a standalone top to bottom fielding teams even after players move up to VDA just from the outside looking in I don't feel the same looking at the teams PWSI is tossing out there. I'm just curious what that attributes to. Is it neglecting the grassroots program that in turn lowers the pool of players that could potentially move up an shore up their teams? Or is it some internal dysfunction that leaves a bad taste for some players/families? U13+ in VSA appears to be able to field enough players to even hold a house league for girls those ages. |
| I was told by a parent that VSA sends more girls and PWSI sends more boys. I'm not at either club so this is anecdotal |

Business success vs players success, the club must do a better job at balancing this. As one post stated no club coaches at the grassroot level. Development opportunity was missed.
08G ECNL-RL is technically PWSI 08G A-team. Have a proper tryout. ECNL-RL is not the cream of the crop but it still requires a certain amount of skills and athletic abilities to compete. Mismatch in skills and speed = not fun. When it is not fun...well they quit or move to another club. It is too late for development for some. The team success will only happen thru good recruiting. |
PWSI was decimated when they started VDA. It has taken time to build PWSI back up. It’ll never be what it used to be (that’s now VDA) but between them and VSA, there are 2 good options for players in PW who do not make VDA. I know that PWSI lost their whole first 08 team to vda and bryc with the exception of one player. So using the 08 age group as an example isn’t a hood one because it’s a second team making the transition to a league where they play all first teams. The team has added players and is getting better though. PWSI’s struggles clearly come down to promoting all of their best players to VDA then losing what is leftover to less ECNL/GA’s in NOVA. Very few 09 PWSI players will make vda. It will be lots of vsa players so vsa will have the same issues. |
