I find 7th grade and 8th grade to be the most exciting period for youth sports. They are finally old enough to play the sport relatively well, they are not distracted with HS sports and college recruiting and boys/girls yet. The parents have wild dreams about what their kid might become as puberty has not fully set in yet. The kids are tight friends and still like being around their parents. It’s an exciting time as everything is on the verge. I think that’s why you see pages upon pages dedicated to 08 and 07 ages (this year). Everything and anything’s possible. A few years later, reality becomes clear and parents realize that the wins and losses don’t really matter, and instead what matters are grades, jobs, and for the select few soccer development and acumen and exposure to college coaches.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHY US WILL NEVER AMOUNT TO CRAP IN FOOTBALL AKA SOCCER.

yeah sure, before you hop on that but but but our women’s team is thy best.

LOL SURE when nobody else have a damn about female football. Last World Cup was the prime example that within the coming years the US women team will become another team in the pack.... like the mens........

OMG. I have been saying the exact OPPOSITE. I have a U16 Freshmen and a U13 7th grader. The older kids games are so much more enjoyable because the parents have grown realistic in their player's ability (for the most part) and they don't have this illusion that their kid is the next Alex Morgan or Christian Pulisic. The sidelines have grown so much calmer w/out idiot commentary and screaming. There is also the acknowledgement, that for many, the end road is soon here so just enjoy the play. After traveling to so many faraway games and tournaments you start to realize a lot of the 'extra' really wasn't worth it.

I much prefer the low tension and anxiety of a kid just going out to play because they love it and parents just relaxing and watching that.
