It will be at least a month, things shift. COVID is surging which points to Lujan Grisham with her healthcare background as the best choice. COVID is crippling the economy and impacting every citizen. We need a national plan and Grisham is the obvious choice to lead it. |
I think she'd be a fine VP choice, but she could also accomplish this as SecHHS. |
Lujan Grisham is one of the most experienced candidates as both a congresswoman and a governor. She is from a strong political family in New Mexico. She also is a widow so none of her spouse’s baggage will taint her (potential for this impacting others like Harris). She’d be one of the better choices Biden can make. |
Saw Tammy Duckworth on Rachel Maddow, and she's now had a makeover. Definitely in contention. |
I agree. Plus, she is the only one that can reassure Hispanics that Biden will not go rogue again and deport millions of them. |
If we are going on experience it’s not Duckworth. She is a junior senator with some state legislative experience. Her relative youth is a positive. As an aside, anyone else think it’s poor judgment to have a baby at 50 years old? |
One term in the US Senate. Two terms in the US House of Representatives. Two years as the Assistant Secretary of Veteran Affairs and three years as the Director of the Illinois Department of Veteran Affairs. So 11 years of public service post-military career including a mix of both legislative and executive experience. Considering she spent 22 years in the military rising to the rank of Lt Colonel and winning many awards, that's a pretty good service career. Considering Warren only has 6 years of US Senate experience, but no one seems to question her experience. Kamela Harris only has slightly more with 3 years in the US Senate, 6 years as the California state AG, and 7 years as the San Fransisco city AG. |
Duckworth meets the bar. And her disabled veteran status is a huge plus. Everyone respects her, and she is known to be direct and a truth teller. |
He needs to choose an AA female. |
No he doesn't. He will name at least two (Rice and Harris) to key cabinet posts and will name the first AA SC Justice. He's good. |
^^first AA female SC Justice obviously |
Not really....Trump has dug his grave with most AA voters. |
More importantly, he needs to choose a partner he feels comfortable governing with, and who could help with electability, especially with swing voters. I doubt he'll feel he can pick a white woman, but if Duckworth or Lujan Grisham is his best pick in these terms, so be it. AA women will have prominent voices in his administration regardless: Harris as AG (if she wants it, NY Times says she might) and Rice as Sec State. Bottoms and Demings likely will be offered Cabinet appointments. Bass has a shot at the House speakership. That is an impressive amount of representation, any way you slice it. |
Absolutely. Pick the person most qualified for VP and most likely to add (or at least not lose) votes. While there are many incredibly impressive AA women office holders none seem to fit the bill as well as Duckworth or Grisham. Actually I think Demmings would be awesome but I worry that her tenure as police chief would worry some people. Pick the best most electable woman. We had an AA President for 8 years. We have never had a female VP (or President). Pick someone who is qualified AND who will make winning more not less likely |
