Single Issue Voter: Controlling The Borders

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which oversees federal funding for services related to noncitizen migrant arrivals in the U.S., said the border isn't part of its "mission space," according to emails obtained by Fox News Digital.

FEMA, which is a Department of Homeland Security subagency tasked with overseeing federal disaster assistance programs, made the statement in an email exchange with Democrat Arizona Rep. Ruben Gallego's staff, which invited agency officials to tour the border. Gallego has criticized the agency for diverting hundreds of millions of dollars in migrant service assistance away from Arizona to northern cities and states like New York and Chicago.

"Arizona’s border communities have been on the front line of this border crisis. We’ve worked, again and again, to get the administration to listen to their concerns," Gallego told Fox News Digital. "They’ve refused to communicate, answer even the most basic of questions, and perhaps worst of all, chosen to divert funds away from the border."

"Now, when we’ve presented Administrator [Deanne] Criswell with the opportunity to meet directly with Arizonans to hear their concerns, FEMA has chosen to throw their hands up and claim the border isn’t their problem," he continued. "That’s insulting to Arizonans, and the agency should be held accountable. When Arizonans complain about the government doing nothing to support them – this is exactly the type of behavior they’re talking about."

You do know that FEMA and border patrol are different agencies with different missions, right? Or do you believe some FOX News mythology that every agency's prime directive is to keep brown people out?

You didn't bother reading the article......

Congress established the SSP under the 2023 Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act to "support sheltering and related activities provided by non-Federal entities, including facility improvements and construction, in support of relieving overcrowding in short-term holding facilities." The fiscal year 2023 DHS funding bill specifically earmarked $363.8 million to FEMA, not CBP, to manage the program.

Well since Texas and others are shipping the migrants who are supposed to go into those sheltering facilities away from the border to other places, then that's where the money for sheltering is going. I guess you can blame DeSantis and Greg Abbott for the money not being spent at the border.

You are joking, right?
If this was indeed the cartels posting these signs, which is not clear at all - it is telling anyone else to not traffic fentanyl because THEY have the market on it.

It is just so precious that the PP thinks the cartels are now looking out for people. Wow.

Wow, amazing that you think the epidemic of fentanyl overdose deaths has anything so hilarious and full of lols about it. 🤦‍♂️

The cartels don't want fentanyl trafficked because it's killing their customer base for other drugs. A dead customer can't buy drugs. Apparently that's too hard for you to understand?

If any of you are serious about fentanyl then you need to support an increase CBP's ability to man ports of entry and to screen and inspect container ships. It's weird that Republicans oppose that. They seem unserious about fentanyl even while claiming it's part of border security.

It's also mind boggling that Republicans have been opposing any funding to increase the numbers of hearing officials and immigration judges to speed up the processing of migrants, given 80% plus of them do not qualify for asylum and could be deported / sent back once that assessment is made. But instead they end up in limbo status, with a 2 year deep backlog, leading to "catch and release" and other things - its almost as though Republicans want to make the crisis worse with their dumb policies. Republicans have been opposing that going back to Obama.

*crickets*

Also: Flashback to Gym Jordan declaring one of his first acts if he were to become Speaker would be to completely eliminate all funding to CBP for "processing migrants" - well they need to be processed to be deported, bucko.

Republicans brains are broken.

Good grief.

Biden has shipped more migrants to NY, Chicago, and places near and far than anyone else has.
Do you not understand that?

He has sent about 13,000 to NY. That is about 12%, or less of the total of migrants that NY has at this time.
The rest were sent by Biden or by the Democratic Mayor of El Paso.

Right, because THAT’LL stop them!

People who cross the cartels end up dead, dummy.

But that said, the majority of fentanyl is coming in container ships, not by drug mules out in the desert.

That you think this will change anything at all only makes clear who is the dummy here.

Exports of cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine to the U.S. will likely rise in the near future to make up for the income shortfall from the fentanyl ban, cartel members say. Although the core business of the Sinaloa cartel traditionally centers on illegal narcotics, say U.S. officials, the criminal group has diversified into other illicit activities such as widespread extortion.

If you don't like it, rewrite the laws and get it passed with a coherent majority. Oh wait, you can't even get a coherent majority within your own Republican conference.
