Pelosi announces impeachment inquiry

Reminder that John Eisenberg is the guy who told KT McFarland NOT to write up the denial that Trump was in the loop on Mike Flynn's Kislyak call bc it would suggest a quid pro quo.

This. I don't believe in conspiracy theories. But there no explanation why most Republican leaders are still riding the Trump train with publicly available facts. Sure Nunes is probably a True Believer. But McConnell? He doesn't do ANYTHING that doesn't benefit him. How does he benefit by passively supporting Trump? Maybe he is blackmailed, paid off or knows it is rigged. We don't have enough info to know which it is. But I would bet money it is one of those.

It's a lot simpler than that. They are all afraid of the base. 90% of Republicans love him. If McConnell turns on Trump, the base will turn on him.

More on the testimony Wednesday: “Two State Department officials, Catherine Croft and Chris Anderson, plan to describe to impeachment investigators an unusual intrusion into U.S. foreign policy by Trump-aligned consultants, singling out Trump’s “long-held view of Ukraine as a corrupt country.” Croft and Anderson detail an unusual effort by non-government officials to influence U.S. foreign policy toward Ukraine as it was subjected to intensifying aggression from Russia. They hoped to “undo” Trump’s hostile posture, but were told Rudy was the obstacle.

Catherine Croft on the withheld military aid:

“The only reason given was that the order came at the direction of the president.”

Chris Anderson says senior White House officials blocked the issuing of a statement condemning Russia after Moscow seized Ukrainian ships in November 2018.

Re Moscow Mitch and the GOP - they have taken millions in Russian money, directly, through PACs and the NRA. Look at Mitch's deal with the aluminum plant in Kentucky owned by none other than Oleg Derispaka. They are doing it in plain sight.

My theory, that I’ll keep reporting when it fits, is that it’s many of these things - they have created a big dumb Frankenstein’s monster, they have taken money from Russia/are in business with Russia, they do want an authoritarian/Dominionist country, but I also think that when Russia hacked the RNC, they found clear evidence that the GOP has been stealing elections for almost twenty years. Whatever whole party blackmail they have on the GOP must be choice, and I can’t think of much bigger than the fact that the GOP hasn’t been winning like America thinks it has.

A patriot would say, so be it, and do the right thing for the country. Sometimes someone has to be the hero who throws himself on the grenade.

McCarthy sucks. He's attacking the Dems instead of addressing the facts about Trump. So weak.
