Both Rep. Joe Cunningham of SC and Rep. Jared Golden of Maine, freshmen Democrats from districts Trump won, have said they’re voting in favor of the impeachment inquiry tomorrow. |
For the due process complainers, why haven't you asked Trump about the full page ad he took out implicating 5 innocent people for a crime they didn't commit in Central Park?
Talk about due process. |
No. They don’t. GOP have a vested interest in not understanding anything. |
This has been the case all along. The GOP complaining about "process" is totally unfounded and meant to be a distraction. They cannot challenge the story, so they challenge the process. They are losing on both counts. You cannot defend the indefensible. The facts of this episode are straightfoward and unassailable. I guess the GOP wants to go down with SS Trump. |
Morrison is resigning today and testifying tomorrow.
That is strong. |
President Trump has asked Republicans to stop focusing on process and to focus instead on the facts/substance. What does that mean when we have several key and highly respected witnesses (Bill Taylor, Fiona Hill, Lt. Col Vindeman) all testifying to the same set of facts? I think we got our first hint today with several Republican lawmakers (including Kevin McCarthy) saying that what the President did is not impeachable. So it looks like the new strategy is “Get over it”
So Republicans do not think it is an abuse of power for a President to pressurize a foreign country to produce dirt on a political opponent They are also fine with a President using military aid funds approved and appropriated by Congress as a tool to shake down an ally They are also fine with a President imperiling the National security of a key strategic ally that forms a key bulwark against Russian expansion in Europe and the Baltic For people who are inclined to give him a pass this one time, I will remind you that the infamous phone call to Ukraine occurred the day after Mueller’s lackluster testimony. The President obviously learned from that experience that he would not be held accountable. So what could happen if he gets a pass a second time because Republicans do not think what happened was an abuse of power? |
I think Republicans are in trouble with this approach. All but the hardest core partisans understand that it is wrong. The 2020 election has the potential to be ugly for those that try to hide behind Trump's skirts. |
Disagree. McConnell once again parried an election security bill. They know they are getting "outside" help.
|
And it's even worse than what went on in the phone call. Our foreign policy toward Ukraine was being dictated by Rudy Giuliani, who was on the payroll of a Soviet-backed Ukrainian oligarch. Total corruption. |
*Russian-backed* oligarch, I meant |
Don't pin your hopes on him. |
I don’t think anyone needs to pin all of their hopes on anyone, considering they all have the same story. |
Rep. Kendra Horn of Oklahoma is also in favor. Leaves only three Democratic holdouts. |
This. I don't believe in conspiracy theories. But there no explanation why most Republican leaders are still riding the Trump train with publicly available facts. Sure Nunes is probably a True Believer. But McConnell? He doesn't do ANYTHING that doesn't benefit him. How does he benefit by passively supporting Trump? Maybe he is blackmailed, paid off or knows it is rigged. We don't have enough info to know which it is. But I would bet money it is one of those. |
Rudy bagging against Trump's Russia Ambassador nominee who is currently a Senate Confirmed Assistant Sec State.
That's a winning ploy. |
