Covid vaccine and menstruation

I'm 73, after second shot got cramps and started bleeding. Still am off and on for 2 weeks. Any smart answer to that?

How about see a doctor?

41 yo female, no birth control.
Fine after Pfizer shot 1.
After shot 2, period was 6 days early, with cramps, and heavy. The last two are unusual.
No other effects other than a sore arm.

35 yo with a pretty regular period. Mine came at 27 days into my cycle after having the first shot at day 7. Everything is totally normal, maybe even a bit light.

Consider this as part of your anecdotal evidence.

You’re just getting your 2nd shot now and you’re 73? Ok.

At this point I can’t even remember what it feels like to not bleed constantly. I never realized it was possible to go this long. I really just want it to end so I can finally enjoy my fully vaccinated status after this crazy year, but I feel like I’m just not getting to the hardest part personally.

I will return to the dr in a few weeks for a follow up ultrasound and I hope they will find some explanation and/or solution. Fingers crossed that this thread survives until then. This thread had really been a great comfort to me—just being able to talk about this somewhere, so thank you all!

I'm praying for you. What a crappy situation to be in after trying to protect yourself and others by being vaccinated.

Thank you, I appreciate that. And I want to be clear that I don’t know if I’ll ever be 100% certain that this was cause by the vaccine. I have scoured the internet up and down, and I guess this is something that can just happen out of the blue. With the timing of it, it’s just hard for me to separate the two events. If they find something in there that explains this, believe me, I will sing it from the rooftop.

DP. I hope the Provera stops it for you. This happened to me after a TBI and injury. It does just happen and it can be a total mystery. But hormones are usually to blame—have you had a uterine biopsy though? Your OB should have done one by now.

No biopsy yet, dr. said she thought I was too young (ha, always nice to hear at 44), but I’m assuming that will be next step if it won’t stop and they can’t find anything else. Just curious, how did your episode resolve? Did it just stop eventually, or what did you have to do?

The provera worked (10 day course) then i had irregular periods on and off for while that were really annoying and heavy. Eventually used provera cyclically for a few months and everything went back to normal. I had a biopsy because my ultrasound was questionable and I was only in my 30s. It was clear, had bloodwork, etc. anyway, it’s super frustrating when this happens but in your mid 40’s it could be anything.

Period was a full week late after second Pfizer dose.

You sound fairly confident that in your case it was caused by your TBI and injury, since it began right after that. But I guess it could have been anything.

Do you really think the average woman can explain how the menstrual cycle works at the physiological level? And how the physiological stress response works? And how the immune system works? And how they interact at the cellular and molecular levels? It doesn't mean anyone is dumb, it just means they haven't gone to school to learn that stuff and maybe don't need to act like the sky is falling if the vaccine alters their cycle for one month.

Smart scientist lady, are you still here? Sincerely wondering how to reconcile this: we have people like you saying well OF COURSE your cycle can be affected by a vaccine. These systems are complicated and interrelated, but it’s not surprising and nbd.

And then we have a quote like this from a doctor in the NYT this morning:

“It’s unlikely that the Covid vaccine would affect menstrual cycles, and there’s no plausible biological mechanism by which this would occur. However, there is little data on this topic,” Dr. Klipstein said.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/14/well/live/women-covid-19-vaccine.html

Is it any wonder women are confused? And kinda pissed for being made to feel like idiots for wondering what’s happening with their bodies? Feel free to explain this to me like I’m a 5 year old.

Oh weird. They aren't publicly saying it could cause menstrual cycle issues. Please!! Why does the media make the conspiracy theorists look correct? Absurd.

I can explain it: it is negative press for the shot. And they're worried people will hesitate.

So they’re gaslighting half the population (I mean, they’re only women, after all.) in order to shore up public confidence. Solid plan.

It’s pretty obvious that the changes are caused by transient changes in platelets, which are known to change menstrual cycles. Not really hormonal, and not permanent. A lot of the anecdotes are probably just chance as well.
