How on earth is it a "disgrace" that immunocompromised people or those with immunocompromised loved ones might want to avoid hospitalization?! What the f* is wrong with you people?!

2,000+ new cases today alone in NY.

Yes, we’re not NY. But, the country is heading into a crazy winter and we are going to see a lot of leaves/resignations when hybrid model begins to provide the necessary climate for outbreaks to spread.

Covid is out of control.

People who have a true health concern should be ashamed of their colleagues who are faking it.

Neither of these are a given.

I'm just curious, in the spring were you screaming about deaths? Because cases are in large part insignificant.

But let's keep moving the goal posts because teachers dont want to go back to work.

+1 I've posted this link in 2 other threads. Have you seen the new CDC guidance? Read this article. People who think we're over this thing are nuts. We're heading into a bad second wave.

Covid is out of control why? Do you remember SARS? We didnt test every person on the planet for SARS nor did we lock down our country. This exact situation is what has flipped me from being a life long democrat to voting for the "orange man". And yes, I already cast my vote.

The new CDC guidance is not that different. It’s 15 minutes cumulatively over 24 hours instead of 15 minutes consecutively. Unless the states governors roll back the phasing formally for a state or region, I don’t see the school’s stopping the forward motion of hybrid.

I’d like more details on this alleged shortage in FCpS. What grade levels specifically? Of course there are shortages for specialized teachers at the higher level but it’s not hard to hire k-6. Time for school. Some school. I’m not a 5 day a week or bust type of person but this area has opened up pretty much everything except for schools with no negative effect. We can do it and follow the guidance to make it safe, at least for the vast majority of kids.

K-6 is a shortage area according to the State of Virginia. They publish a list every year

You do not understand how ADA accommodations work. People have to have a doctor sign off on the medical reason/need. Most doctors are honest and will not sign off on it if the need isn't there. Even then, there are instances where the accommodation may not be made (e.g., if the accommodation is an "essential function" of a job, no accommodation is required). One can reasonably argue whether it is essential that all teachers be onsite. But that is a function of the process and the legal determination made (which can be and are challenged).

In short, it is very hard to "fake it" and still receive the accommodation. Very hard.

How about we pay them properly?

Do you know if parents will rise up in arms when they force another shutdown in winter? Or will they prefer to have their kids pick up the virus and spread it at home so they can enjoy mimosas? Asking for a friend.
