Good for him, but ughh it feels like those of us who are committed to staying are going down with a sinking ship.

Our administration is pretending nothing is wrong and is doubling down on the extra duties and expectations that have nothing to do with teaching. The principal blames the faculty for bad student behavior last year, so from her perspective, she is battening down the hatches. In reality, she is creating a prison-like environment for both teachers and students, so I imagine we will lose more good instructors at the end of the year.

Does the school start with a K, by chance?

Or an H…

Actually, the school doesn’t start with an H or a K. I am not surprised this dynamic is typical of other schools in the district. Sometimes, I feel like administrators learn how to pass the buck and avoid responsibility as part of their training. Maybe they bond over conversations on how best to “get the teachers in line” at their leadership conferences. Of course, not all administrators are bad, but when they are bad, they bring down school morale in a big way. I know and work with some supportive administrators, but right now the principal is running the show like a deranged dictator, and she doesn’t seem to understand that the faculty shouldn’t be relied on so heavily as a free labor source that compensates for the lack of counselors, custodians, and security guards.
