Franchot is terrible and anywhere else would be a republican. |
Schultz ..did you even read her platform? No, Md will absolutely not ever vote for that. Not in a million years. We will have a Democratic governor again, and hopefully it will stay that way. |
She is no extension of Larry Hogan. No, she will not win. Not here. |
She is not at all like Hogan. Hogan only won lasr time due to the untimely death of the Dem candidate. We aren't voting in Republicans again. |
Kamenetz wasn’t favored to win the primary and if he did he would have lost, just like Ben Jealous. Keeping in mind that this was for Hogan’s second term. For Hogan’s first term, he easily beat Anthony Brown who deserved to lose because he’s a terrible politician who has done nothing in his career to this point and has ascended state politics due to party machine backing. His main claim to fame at the time was bungling the state health care exchange, which was the only responsibility he’d been given as Lt Governor to O’Malley. Democrats might have had a chance to stop Hogan at the outset with Gansler. But the machine vote turned out for Brown. A similar thing happened with Erlich and Kennedy-Townsend, so it’s surprising that state Democrats refuse to learn their lesson. Erlich ended up being a terrible governor and lost to O’Malley and Hogan learned that lesson. |
Ive seen this on twitter and its so laughable. A lifetime Takoma Park liberal with like a 40 year voting record to prove it. When he became the state comptroller he showed the slightest bit of fiscal moderatism, so now he is some kind of DINO? Get a grip on yourself. If anything the majority of the dem field is far t the elft of the actual MD electorate, hence Hogan's 70+ percent approval rating. |
I don’t know why it’s so hard for MD democrats to come up with and rally around a good candidate for governor. Too many choices maybe? I guess I’ll vote for franchot or baker, whichever one seems to be more likely to win the general election, but geez. |
Here is where I differ, and my comment isn’t directed at any of the current nominees for governor. I think “we” should vote for the best candidate regardless of party affiliation. by only voting Democrat we got O’Malley and would’ve gotten Ben jealous. By refusing to vote Republican we would not have gotten Larry Hogan. I think that extreme political thinking or rigid political thinking is bad for the state. At this point I don’t know who I think will be a good governor, I’m researching and trying to learn. |
I honestly don't understand Md's love for Larry Hogan. And I'm not saying this because I'm a democrat (I am), but because I don't understand why everyone thinks he is so great. He lied about the covid test from south korea, he violated the states open meetings act, he was found the violated the first amendment when he blocked people from his social media sites, and now he is trying to sell himself as some "not a republican" republican. I honestly don't get it. |
MD residents have extremely low expectations for governance and we generally understand that most things going on in Annapolis are a disgrace. We are happy with Hogan because he’s not obviously corrupt based on Maryland standards, he provides a check on the Assembly which desperately needs it. He hasn’t screwed anything up, hasn’t been ideological, hasn’t raised taxes, doesn’t bother us, and everything works fine. |
is it, though? |
When they say “Republican”, you have to interpret that as he’s a notorious “a-hole”. Nothing to do with policy and everything to do with behavior. |

I liked Hogan. I won’t vote for Schultz Bc of her abortion stance. I know she said she would respect the voters but I don’t trust her.

Her view on abortion is pretty mainstream for centrist Democrats and is even supported by the party. Even Steny Hoyer defends her stance as he has done for other Democrats with similar beliefs where he has said, “we're a diverse party. We have diverse opinions." https://www.businessinsider.com/hoyer-jeffries-defend-backing-henry-cuellar-jessica-cisneros-roe-abortion-2022-5?amp Being personally against abortion but think the law shouldn’t change is pretty much aligned with a lot of Marylanders and as Governor, she wouldn’t be able to change the law universally anyway. |
Yes Democrats can have a big tent approach for one random rep from TX, when he’s one vote amongst 430 or so. I care a lot more when there is one person who serves as a governor with veto power over legislation. Schultz has voted pro life every single time. She’s never voted for any abortion rights bill as a state rep. She sponsored legislation in 2011 that would have effectively banned abortion in the state. She may say she respects MD voters and precedent but I’m not buying that again from any Republican. |
