OP here, and I disagree. I gladly pay for high quality, nice fabrics and good design. I do shop at high-end stores, mixed in with department stores and chains here or there. Labels I've loved for years--including the ones you've mentioned above--really have gone downhill, with materials, lack of options (sleveless EVERYTHING), and styling. It really has. I would happily pay. Take my money! But when you are trying to sell me Dynasty meets Little House on the Prarie, I am not biting. |
You mean team fast fashion. There's a difference. And, lol, at Anne Taylor being held up as an example of fashion. Please. |
You are sad, sad, sad if you are a 24-year-old who trolls fashion boards on a MOM SITE. |

Who held it up as one? The fraus? |
Amen! |
EXACTLY!!! Clothes used to cost more back in the day. Now you have a bunch of women buying cheap stuff from the mall and wondering why it doesn't last... um, duh! |
I buy a lot from Uniqlo and it lasts for years. In my experience, we have more clothes that are higher quality available to us than before. I'm in my mid-40s - I remember the hell of having to shop at suburban department stores and malls as a teen. I feel like you're about to go on some Make Fashion Great Again rant that is all about how people in the 50s had their priorities straight. |
Sleeveless everything is mainly at cheap clothing stores like Jcrew, h&m etc Reiss, Theory and Rebecca Taylor all have plenty of shirts with sleeves. |
I have a 13-year-old pair of BR pants. They are awesome--fully lined, well-constructed, and a classic cut. They are also my motivation not to gain weight, because I cannot replace them. |
Preach on pp ![]() The Hugo Boss/Theory/Joie poster is either very young or has memory loss. Until 10 years ago you never had to go to that price point to find well made clothes. The ATs, JCrews, BRs and yes even Gap used to sell clothing made of quality material that held up multiple seasons. |
NP. Well ya do now. So stop crowing about it and either shell out more or wear your old hand me downs. |
YEP. My old AT and BR stuff is still hanging in my closet. There is a reason I kept going back; I kept thinking they were just having an off season. My AT pants that are LINED are absolutley gorgeous, and were under $100. Now the "same" pair of pants at AT is unlined and made out of flammable, ugly material that doesn't hang well. |
Okay but you guys are talking about quality NOT looks. This post started out saying it's ugly - even the nicest, most high quality designer outfit can also be ugly. So what's your complaint? Is it the quality or the appearance? |
You do know that "frau" simply means woman, right? It's not the cutting insult that you seem to believe it to be. Unless you're a misogynist. |
