OMG, OP, I agree 100% I'm running out of clothes because I can't find anything I like and a lot of my stuff at this point is from 5 years ago before I got pregnant with my first. I tried Stitch Fix and my first box was ok (I kept one thing) and I'm looking forward to the second. I might also try Nordstrom personal stylist or Trunk Club because Nordstrom used to be my "go to" for clothes. |
Amen! |
Righteous rant, OP. Say on!
The other day I received an email from Anthropologie. They wanted to know what I think about their clothing recently. I told them! |
Can we talk about sleeves? As I've gotten older, I've started to run warm. So long sleeves in the office, even during the winter is a no-go. But also as I've older, my arms are a little chubby (as is the rest of me). So I need a little coverage in the upper arms.
IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND SHORT SLEEVES. Everything is long sleeved or sleeveless. You occasionally find short flouncy, frilly sleeves that no middle aged woman who wants to be taken seriously would ever wear. I just want to find a nice top that isn't see-through, that covers my arms in a decent print. |

Good for you!!! |
YES. Why would you add a twist at the left-hand hem of a blousant top, for no reason. Why? |
No amount of money can buy a defined waist these days. |
Amen, sister!
We should all get together and start a clothing company. I'm already at the point where I want to start one for my daughter (I'm the person who started the funeral dress thread). The tacky adult trends are tacky girl trends, too. And they look even trashier on a 12 year old! I'm trying to find a basic black lightweight boat neck sweater. I ordered one online from Banana Republic that I thought would be perfect. The sleeves had semi-transparent STRIPES in them all the way from the shoulder down. Going to the mall is pointless now. It's all trendy crap. Everything is cold shoulder or lace - or both together in one shirt! I hate LACE! Oh, and the shoelace criss-cross lace-up stuff! Ugly fabrics. Blouses so thin you can see through them...for YEARS now. Wear a cami underneath they say. I shouldn't have to buy and wear two shirts because the fabric is so thin you can see my entire bra! And why would I buy jeans with an unfinished hem? |
I know, right?! |
Shoelace criss-cross = yet another example of trying to put Tudor-style corset stuff into modern clothing. No, thank you, m'lady! |
My 60-something year old aunt has started sewing dresses for herself. The woman makes 300k and is sewing her own work dresses like it's 1892 because everything in the stores is such garbage. |
Try Lands End? |
Or LL Bean. They have nice, well made, classic pieces. It can get frumpy but their "signature" line is pretty modern in fit. |
I want to read about your aunt. Can you start a thread dedicated to her adventures in dress making? |
This! She's sounds great. Can she teach us to sew? Back on topic, I wandered into Talbots the other day and it was PACKED. I mean, women everywhere. And I realized that it's bc they have decent basics and lots of women are willing to pay their prices to not have zippered cold shoulder tops. |
