All clothing is ugly these days

Reviews for these AT pants tell the whole story--a few years ago these tropical wool pants were 80+% wool and lined; now they are ~45% wool and unlined. WTF?

As for the people above crowing about the state of today's fashion, don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. The clothing being sold today, at all price points, bears no resemblance to the quality of yesteryear. There isn't a fashion writer or blogger out there who isn't lamenting the problem. So don't try to tell me it's the DC hausfrau.

The Hugo Boss/Theory/Joie poster is either very young or has memory loss. Until 10 years ago you never had to go to that price point to find well made clothes. The ATs, JCrews, BRs and yes even Gap used to sell clothing made of quality material that held up multiple seasons.

YEP. My old AT and BR stuff is still hanging in my closet. There is a reason I kept going back; I kept thinking they were just having an off season. My AT pants that are LINED are absolutley gorgeous, and were under $100. Now the "same" pair of pants at AT is unlined and made out of flammable, ugly material that doesn't hang well.

Okay but you guys are talking about quality NOT looks. This post started out saying it's ugly - even the nicest, most high quality designer outfit can also be ugly. So what's your complaint? Is it the quality or the appearance?

Exactly. Pick a lane.

EXACTLY. Wide-legged wool Theory pants are retailing for $455. Are they lined? Doesn't say, and doesn't indicate the fabric content of a liner/

(also, these are only 39% wool)

These are retailing at $295. Lovely and 95% wool. Still no hint of a lining:

NP. Well ya do now. So stop crowing about it and either shell out more or wear your old hand me downs.

"crowing" means the opposite of what you think it does.

crow
intransitive verb
1 :to make the loud shrill sound characteristic of a cock
2 :to utter a sound expressive of pleasure
3 a :to exult gloatingly especially over the distress of another
b :to brag exultantly or blatantly
transitive verb
:to say with self-satisfaction

Used perfectly correctly.

It's both. In fact, I think all the fussy, confused styling is an attempt to mask the lower quality.

One of the few things BR is still doing correctly -- their wool pants are lined and there's almost always a 30-40% off deal on the site.

People who want to moan about quality need to start their own thread. This is a thread about the ugliness of clothes, NOT the quality. Don't post irrelevant things.

Do any of the BR fits work for people who need "curvy" fits? I've always found their pants to be all wrong for me, even with tailoring. Happy to give them another try if anyone else with hips/thighs has had success. (I'm a size 4-6, but with wide hips and small waist.)

My very favorite on-line retailers are the ones that post garment measurements. Godsend.

Again, IMO they are TOTALLY related.

Well, they're not, they're two separate issues whether you like it or not. So make your own thread
