In 20 days you ran an RFP process? How long did they even give the other clubs to submit a proposal?

They rammed this fake process through to cover up that it was a done deal and they’d handed him this pool in the winter for his new club.

Correct. Total inside job. It’s your pool, you can make changes as the board sees fit, but this was promised to T back in December. Own this is what you did and move on!

Problem is, sounds like the rest of the board, and certainly their membership, was not informed. I watched the president of Tuckahoe pretty much be ignored by everyone at the meet this last weekend while he tried to justify everything to anyone he could get to listen and blame others.

Just be honest of how this went down, apologize for wasting peoples time and move on. So simple and easy.

….and wearing a tuckahoe tshirt too. Maybe no message was intended…but man could you read the room a bit better. Or maybe he did and that was a f* you. lol

Absolutely. Given he is openly trying to go after Machine people in the blame game, why not just move your children to train with T now? I would guess Machine would welcome it as well. I know most the parents would.

It's Machine's fault that Tuckahoe wanted their own PVS year round team? Laughable. I wish I could have heard him trying to justify how it all went down.

In any profession, colleagues may not always agree, but there’s usually a baseline level of respect for those who are truly great at what they do. If most people in a field hold someone in high regard, that says something. If the majority don’t, that says something too.

I’m genuinely interested in joining, but that’s something I’d want to consider.

PVS coach here (not Machine or York). T is well regarded by many other coaches and swimmers. I have never heard of any issues and the results from his swimmers at age group and high school speak for themselves. Any swimmer and their parents should pick the best fit for them.

I do wonder how the meet invitations are going to work, though. I don’t see NCI or Turkey Claus being an option. Will York be okay with this new team going to Sport Fair? Maybe he has an agreement with RMSC to just do their meets. Anyway, blackballing seems real (especially with the FXFX/Makos example someone shared in the earlier pages of this thread). As a parent of a high performing young swimmer, that would matter to me.

Swimmers would also most likely have to swim unattached for a year until everything with the Club in up and running with USA Swimming. Not sure if that impacts anything or not.

But yes I don't think NCI/Turkey Claus will be an option or any other Machine hosted meet.

I love how someone keeps trying to deflect the conversation from the fact that Tuckahoe made a poor fiscal decision for the sake of having their own year round PVS/NVSL swim program.

How do you know it was a Poor Fiscal Decision? Are you on the Board?

Key differentiator: The new "Club" option at Tuckahoe is open to non-members. Non-members are not eligible for NVSL/Summer Swim. And I'll say it again for those in the back.....Tuckahoe has a 5 year wait list.

So, even if Tuckahoe stacks the wait list with kids...it's gonna take a while for this "sake of having their own year round PVS/NVSL swim program" to materialize.

Well given that Torey announced to his high school team that he was leaving and starting his own club at Tuckahoe before Machine was even “informed they were starting and RFP process” means on of two things is true. 1. Torey was/is incredible arrogant to announce this before it was a done deal or 2. It was in fact a done deal and the board agreed to boot machine for his club before even receiving any RFPs.

This has been repeated ad nauseum and continues to be untrue. My niece swims at Yorktown, he announced he was leaving Yorktown at the end of the season as it was the last time the full team would be together and he wanted to tell them himself. Paris has been spouting this false nonsense about this club ‘announcement’ for over a month now. It didn’t happen.

The RFP process was a farce. A decision had been made before proposals were submitted

I don’t get why anyone cares. I am unaffiliated with this issue. This decision seems good for T, Tuckahoe as a whole and the summer team. I would have made the same decision if I was Torey and the same decision if I was Tuckahoe.

Does York swim any of the Machine hosted meets? With PVS hosted meets each month, I doubt it is difficult for any local club to find meets to swim at. And it wouldn’t take driving up to Rockville and RMSC to find them.

Such hostility over what? Seriously. I guess being in an anonymous forum makes these types of comments ok. You realize you are telling a grown man to move his kids from a swim club because they aren't welcome anymore and this doesn't raise some alarms in your conscience?

How many kids can be on a swim team supported by a 6 lane indoor pool and an outdoor 25 meter pool with no blocks that also has to have some space reserved for swim lessons and member swim? How can they host a USA swimming meet with just a 6 lane pool? No one is going to want to go to a swim meet that is scm in a pool with no blocks

Roughly the same number of kids that would have swam there with Machine. You do realize nobody is making you swim there. This whole sport is somewhat voluntary.

Machine had other locations. Is this the only location for this nascent swim club?

Yes. If this is the only pool location for this club and they have a 6 lane pool to run meets, it is going to be a slooow miserable meet. No one will want to attend a USA swim meet in scm.

Quite right. No club should ever start out unless they can have multiple locations off the bat.

I think this poster is referring to club meets and Tuckahoe being not equipped to host them, which means this new club will be relying on invites to meets run by other clubs.
