In some ways that is irrelevant. They are in the country legally.
Trump and his refugee policy is not their fault. The world will always have more deserving people in need of refugee status and as a democracy that is an issue to raise with the government.

True, but to those of us whose ancestors never got the 40 acres or even the mule, this is not my priority for our tax dollars. OTOH, I would feel fine about the “tossed off their own farmland … by the government “ scenario. There isn’t a lack of land available for farming. A farm needs more than just land.
If you want more farmers, then you need government policies to support and aid the small scale subsistence farming.
Expropriating someone’s farm will not ease the poverty in South Africa. You need more than that and the government knows this.
