Herndon high - what’s going on?

Parents had to get really upset and aggressive and the PTA had to quit before they would even show us data. The data is here now showing exactly what we said it would and they act like they solved the problem by adding retakes. but what you naysayers don’t realize is it’s not as simple as the student saying “oh teacher I’d like to do a retake for this standard tomorrow”. The kids have to take time from APs and finals now in May and schedule afterschool retests on whole units since the tests aren’t standard by standard. My daughter is saying hell no and I don’t blame her one bit. I hate all the negativity here acting like the Herndon kids are getting inflated grades because it’s not true. The only kids getting inflated grades now are the ones who would have failed but are now maybe getting D’s.

Yes!

Easy: stop grade inflection at each level. Have final exams written by the next level course teachers. Hold back students who do not pass. Focus on extra support in classes where we see students START to straggle.

Follow that for Ds and Fs but what helps for kids that were getting As that now aren’t? That’s not about them needing to have been held back? If no change to that then still a collateral hit to A kids.

I meant : go to the system we always had and instead this year madness do what I suggested above. Everyone wins

Madison parent here: seeing the F$ck up at Herndon with SBG makes our F&ck with SBG not seem so bad!

Ahe spun the data as being a complete success. I shudder to think about next year. She has made my anxious kid 100x worse. They are almost to the point of school refusal and this is my kid who scored highly on the PSAT-10.

Question for Madison parent- was there as big drop of all As at Madison? Were Madison kids allowed retakes throughout year? Or at all?

And FCPS will use retakes to support whatever agenda is- if few kids take they will say only few were actually upset so yes to SBG and if some take and no grade change they will say see, no difference and if some take and get better grade they will say your welcome. Agree so not see retakes with less than 30 days to go in year as awesome fix.

We need a new superintendent and a new School Board as well, but we'll probably have to wait. It's not just that they are incompetent, although they are, it's that they are both over-reaching and incompetent.

Pretty funny. SBG was designed to bring the top down and the bottom up. Looks like it works to me. What’s the problem?

I am a Madison parent and embarrassed that we can’t get our act together like the Herndon parents. Super impressed with their PTA. I am personally afraid to complain anymore to the school because my kid was impacted (grade was not rounded up from a 92.4 when all other students were) after I complained last year.

Exactly. Everyone should be getting a C. That’s average.

No one knows because Madison refused to share the data and I don’t think our PTA is willing to resign over the issue. I’m pretty sure out PTA supports SBG which might be why so few parents are willing to push back publicly.

The students of the parents who spoke up at Herndon are feeling impact too. The PTAs Presidents kids were told by teachers that it was their moms fault the teachers had to stay after school for retakes. The teachers are mad at the parents because the principal chose the worst option
