It’s what parents at Herndon have been saying all year. We saw it with our own kids but until there was hard data we were ignored. Parents had to get really upset and aggressive and the PTA had to quit before they would even show us data. The data is here now showing exactly what we said it would and they act like they solved the problem by adding retakes. but what you naysayers don’t realize is it’s not as simple as the student saying “oh teacher I’d like to do a retake for this standard tomorrow”. The kids have to take time from APs and finals now in May and schedule afterschool retests on whole units since the tests aren’t standard by standard. My daughter is saying hell no and I don’t blame her one bit. I hate all the negativity here acting like the Herndon kids are getting inflated grades because it’s not true. The only kids getting inflated grades now are the ones who would have failed but are now maybe getting D’s.
Ahe spun the data as being a complete success. I shudder to think about next year. She has made my anxious kid 100x worse. They are almost to the point of school refusal and this is my kid who scored highly on the PSAT-10.
And FCPS will use retakes to support whatever agenda is- if few kids take they will say only few were actually upset so yes to SBG and if some take and no grade change they will say see, no difference and if some take and get better grade they will say your welcome. Agree so not see retakes with less than 30 days to go in year as awesome fix.
