SR/Project Veritas video

As a current SR parent, I am absolutely disgusted by this entire thread, and even more disgusted that it hasn’t been shut down. The fact that there are over 200 posts about 1 teacher - a human being - who isn’t here to defend himself, and people can just freely shame, defend, or generally talk about behind a computer screen without all the facts is just gross to me. It’s no wonder our kids are struggling in so many ways - we as parents set the example and it starts with us. Be better.

I’m glad he was not fired and I hear he jointly made the decision to leave with the school given the threats he was receiving. Have some compassion, I hope the school gave him a great financial deal to end his contract early.

I think this is fair to say, except his staying at the school was absolutely not going to work. So saying the "threats" are what made him leave is a bit of a stretch. He would not have ever had the same level of respect from parents, students, and other faculty as he did before the incident. Yes he had some support, but there were many who were unhappy that were not speaking up.

And some of those speaking up against him sounded like bigots, I lost a lot of respect for other SR parents over the past month.

Oh, really? How so? I’m an SR parent and have heard nothing bigoted from any other parent, regardless of their opinion on the situation.

I’ve heard a few anti-gay comments, like this is what we should have expected from someone like him. It’s remarkable how these people could love their fun drama teacher for years and then turn on him like vipers when a heavily edited few seconds of him appeared on a right wing site.

His leaving had nothing to do with his gayness, but everything to do with loss of trust in him. Of course, everyone at school is upset because we were all betrayed by him. For Catholics, we sent our daughters to SR for the foundation of Catholic teachings. We trusted him with our children, while all along, he had secretly been trying to do whatever he could to subvert the Catholic teachings. So, no, he does not belong at a Catholic school.

Do you honestly believe he had been there for years just to subvert Catholic teachings? I know what he said in the 5 second clip and it was wrong, but given his years as an educator do you think these 5 seconds represents all you need to know to judge the man?

Those words came out of his mouth, and were recorded. So yeah, I believe him.

That’s very sad, we’re all sinners and I hope no one ever judges you on the worst 5 seconds recorded while disregarding your years of performance. I hope our girls are learning more about forgiveness than this suggests.

Sheez, calm down. I'm sure the school allowed him to resign and will be giving him a great recommendation. He had always planned to go to grad school at the end of this school year anyway, so it's not a big deal for him to leave a few months early.

Calm now and stop strangling yourself with that string of pearls. He'll be fine. He had always planned to leave at the end of the school year and attend grad school, so he's just leaving a few months early. The school administration loves him and will give him a great recommendation regardless of what he's done.

The only “judging” going on is whether his recorded statements merit termination of his current position as dean of the MS. This isn’t about “sinning” or granting “forgiveness” - it’s about accountability. He’s a highly educated professional who has his wits about him - you’re doing him a disservice by treating him like a child who can’t have meant what he said or that he’s just a “sinner” who should be absolved by the school(?!). You’re assuming he sought “forgiveness” but was denied it - forgiveness for what?

Fair point. I jumped in to offer support to the school and to him, but now see it wasn’t helpful at all.

Project veritas is a troll army with zero journalistic standards who warp their footage to an extent not possible to even articulate and deserve zero regard or attention. Don’t give them the credence of this thread. They are truly truly gross people.

You are correct, PV is a horrible entity. Did you watch the video? There were no cuts during his statement, which was very clear. I grant you, worse case the question that led him to the statement may have been something like, "Don't you feel like you are going against the Catholic Church when you affirm your students?" But that doesn't matter because his words were his own. His words verbatim with no cutaways:

For some of these parents, we affirm their identity before they were able to, and them being on the journey with us and feeling support and getting to a place where they can affirm it, feels like I’m subverting the Catholic Church’s agenda on homosexuality, and that feels great.

On the matter of lgbtq the Catholic Church is effed up so good for him.

Hope he leaves and easily gets a job at another school that actually cares about human beings and not dogma

He did leave. He's going to graduate school, not another job. The school is actually very accommodating to the LGBTQ community. It had nothing to do with that and everything to do with the teachers disrespect for the student body, faculty, and parents of the school who follow the Catholic teachings and faith in general. If he said that, what else does he subvert on a regular basis?

I did the same. I thought that defending an educator who has been nothing but supportive to my daughters for years was the right thing to do but I see how this just gives more fuel to his critics. If my girls weren’t already in high school I’d be looking for a new school, I’ve learned a lot about my fellow SR parents and am disgusted.

I don’t understand, if you don’t believe in Catholic values, why did you send your daughters to a Catholic school all these years? SR is as a foundation, a Catholic school. If you support a teacher who had been trying to subvert Catholic values at a Catholic school, then I would say, you, like him, shouldn’t be at a Catholic school.

That doesn’t sound bad at all.

I don’t believe he’s been subverting Catholic values, I think he said one stupid thing that has been taken out of context. I am a Catholic who has read all of the papal Enciclicals around sexuality and he is no more out of line with catholic doctrine than any teacher who has used artificial birth control. Is anyone going after them? My family has been in Catholic schools for generations, admittedly my grandparents generation were much more devout with daily mass as part of their practice. It’s really odd to see all of these families come to my Catholic school, many of whom aren’t Catholic just MAGA conservatives, and suddenly they’re the Catholic police.

If cell phone cameras existed maybe Galileo would have been caught saying: "I’m subverting the Catholic Church’s agenda on the heliocentrism, and that feels great."
