Fair point. I jumped in to offer support to the school and to him, but now see it wasn’t helpful at all.

I did the same. I thought that defending an educator who has been nothing but supportive to my daughters for years was the right thing to do but I see how this just gives more fuel to his critics. If my girls weren’t already in high school I’d be looking for a new school, I’ve learned a lot about my fellow SR parents and am disgusted.

I don’t understand, if you don’t believe in Catholic values, why did you send your daughters to a Catholic school all these years? SR is as a foundation, a Catholic school. If you support a teacher who had been trying to subvert Catholic values at a Catholic school, then I would say, you, like him, shouldn’t be at a Catholic school.

I don’t believe he’s been subverting Catholic values, I think he said one stupid thing that has been taken out of context. I am a Catholic who has read all of the papal Enciclicals around sexuality and he is no more out of line with catholic doctrine than any teacher who has used artificial birth control. Is anyone going after them? My family has been in Catholic schools for generations, admittedly my grandparents generation were much more devout with daily mass as part of their practice. It’s really odd to see all of these families come to my Catholic school, many of whom aren’t Catholic just MAGA conservatives, and suddenly they’re the Catholic police.

He said he feels great about subverted Catholic values. How much worse could it be? Even if he did not subvert the Catholic teachings in that act, he said he felt great about subverting Catholic teachings, and that is the crux of the matter.

Oh joy, you’ve read all the papal papers. Give yourself a double pat on the back! Just because you’ve veered off from your family’s Catholic values, doesn’t make everyone else who still values Catholic beliefs to be MAGA. You throw out labels like that to make yourself feel better.

That’s not what he said. He said “subverting the Catholic Church’s agenda on homosexuality”.

Agendas aren’t values.

Mince words however you want, he did say he has been purposely subverting Catholic teachings. The Catholic Church has not embraced the doctrines of LGBTQ, so he is working against the Catholic Church. If he doesn’t agree with or respect Catholic teachings, he shouldn’t be teaching at a Catholic school.

Ok then, let’s get rid of all of the gay faculty and staff. The Catholic Church has been equally clear in all of the same teachings on Catholic sexuality that artificial birth control and sexual activity outside the bounds of marriage are sinful, get rid of all of the members of our community who have done that. Kick out the girls who were born using IVF. Who do you have left now?

The secret recording was made over a year ago, he isn’t subverting the Catholic teachings any more. The pope has been blessing same sex unions and telling us not to judge, maybe he was just ahead of his time.

Oh stop it. All Catholics are all sinners. It is one thing to be human and another to outright degrade the teachings of a school at which you are employed and collecting a paycheck. Parents could no longer trust this faculty member. That is the bottom line.

With the sarcasm and personal insults I know that this couldn’t be a SR middle schooler, this wouldn’t pass any ELA test. What sort of Catholic values are those? Our girls are taught to do textual analysis, if you want to understand Catholic doctrine you should read Papal Encyclicals, in this case Amoris Leatitia. As a regular churchgoer this is what our priest instructs us all to do, why don’t you follow catholic teachings in this way?

He was at the time and that is all that matters. Who is to say he won’t do it again for some other issue like transgenderism, which is against Catholic teachings. I am sure he was affirming many transgender students.

Ok, MAGA, slow down. Those are personal choices that individuals make for themselves and deals with whatever personal consequences comes with it. But when an educator’s actions goes against the values of a school, directly affecting the children, then that’s a different matter. Mr. Westerkemp’s actions and words did go against the foundational values of the school. He was finally caught, and knew it, so he left on his own accord.

Kick out the girls who were born using IVF. Who do you have left now?

Oh stop it. All Catholics are all sinners. It is one thing to be human and another to outright degrade the teachings of a school at which you are employed and collecting a paycheck. Parents could no longer trust this faculty member. That is the bottom line.

He didn’t “outright degrade the teachings” that’s just your judgment. Parents pick and choose which catholic teachings they follow, if they follow any at all. All of you perfect Catholics should make a school for those who follow every Catholic teaching, I wish you well there.

Oh joy, you’ve read all the papal papers. Give yourself a double pat on the back! Just because you’ve veered off from your family’s Catholic values, doesn’t make everyone else who still values Catholic beliefs to be MAGA. You throw out labels like that to make yourself feel better.

Lol, still trying to pretend like you’re a true Catholic. What actual church do you regularly go to?

He said he feels great about subverted Catholic values. How much worse could it be? Even if he did not subvert the Catholic teachings in that act, he said he felt great about subverting Catholic teachings, and that is the crux of the matter.

It’s not a judgement; he outrighly admitted to it. If you don’t believe in Catholic teachings, why are you part of it and why would you put your daughters in a Catholic school? I’m still wondering that.

I go to my local parish every week, but that doesn’t really make me a good Catholic. So many gospels are about not following the letter of the law and instead trying to love your neighbor. I hope you have a blessed Lenten season.
