| Given my constraints that I 1) cannot wear heels; and 2) need arch support, these have worked for me: https://www.vionicshoes.com/anaya-sandal.html?color=997&rrec=true. |
I think this is my problem. Feet are not cute in general, so a little delicate sandal might look cute in a photo but will not make your foot look cute. So I don't see the point in these little unsupportive sandals with the little straps that barely hold it on because 99% of people are going to look pretty meh in them. Meanwhile, if you have great legs and a tan, I think a nice pair of Birkenstocks is really flattering -- your foot isn't falling out of them, they are made with natural fibers like leather, metal, and cork (not plastic, so many of the recommended shoes are made with plastic, faux leather, polyester, etc.). I think people look more cute in these shoes because they are designed to function like actual shoes and not like useless toe adornments. I very rarely see a woman in a "cute" sandal and thing "oh, that's so flattering." But I often see women in Birks, Mephistos, Vionics, etc. and think "oh, that looks nice." Yes the keens are offensive. But a lot of the shoes deemed orthopedic, old lady, or ugly on this thread... I think they are more attractive than the flimsy little strappy sandals people are suggesting. |

At least these are an actual shoe! So many of the "cute" options posted are just flip flops with thin plastic soles. The options from Old Navy and Crocs (?!) are hideous and will fall apart in a week. Even some of the more expensive options just look cheap to me. |
Just a bunch of fancy flip flops. |
| To be fair, although I find most of the shoes that have been posted to be hideous, many are (unfortunately) on trend. Birkenstocks have been having a resurgence for a while and it looks like it will continue into summer 2023, as have clunky strappy shoes. Fisherman shoes are making a comeback, and studded/metal detail has been popular. I hate it all, but I think some of the criticism seems to come from people who are still stuck with fashion sensibilities from circa 2010. |
That is what OP is replacing. "matte bronzey low t-strap sandals" |
Exactly! Almost no one on this thread is responding to the OP! And to the PP who has twice now mentioned "an actual shoe"...what are you talking about? All the above sandals are indeed real.
|
| OP here again! Thanks again for all the suggestions. The dearly departed sandals that sparked all 20 pages of this thread covered much more of the foot than these gold t-straps in the images above. (Although those are all cute! Thanks!) My 'go with everything,' description wasn't specific enough. I do wear Chaco's for casual things. I'm still looking for sandals to wear with my summer dresses, skirts and pants. My workplace is fairly casual, but I don't want to wear Birks. Also, I have finicky feet, so I need a back strap and arch support-- no flip-flops or slides for me, alas. Too bad, because slides are the most common styles this year. Still looking! Someone posted some Kenneth Cole Gentle Soul T-straps that were close, but the colors wouldn't work with my clothes. Now we need a 'summer bag that goes with... not everything... but sundresses, skirts and pants!" Thanks all! |
| OP again, again-- I think what I really want this year is a walkable sandal, with a back strap and arch support, with a 1-2 inch heel or wedge, in a soft metallic or neutral that kinda disappears on the foot. (You know what I mean? Does that make sense?) The t-strap thing isn't that big of a deal. Again, thank you for all the responses! I wish I could wear many of these suggestions. |

I practically live in these all summer. Yes, ugly, whatever, but they are sooo comfortable

A real shoe has arch support and is secure to your foot. Which is exactly what OP is looking for. A lot of suggestions are just fancy flip flops, appropriate for a resort/beach/pool but are not "real shoes" in the sense that you would wear them to run errands, work, go out to dinner at a nice restaurant, etc. I have been to bars and restaurants that would not allow you in wearing many of these shoes because they are just flip flops and not considered actual shoes a lot of places because they do not provide enough coverage and separation from the floor. I think a lot of these flimsy shoes are very inelegant. |
DP. I have a pair of Vince sandals -- these: https://www.vince.com/product/ceil-mule-H9500L1.html ...and they are gloriously comfortable, more so than a lot of flat shoes I own. I love love love them! If the pair the PP linked is what you had in mind, give them a try, OP. |
