If IU is so much more selective than JMU, then it’s all the more frankly amazing how JMU does in terms of 6 yr graduation - which outpaces most State “flagships” |
Their decision release dates are in line with most other colleges. Perhaps you're just impatient? |
. That was already said earlier in the chain. |
| JMU is a great school for kids from NOVA who don't want to be far from Mommy & Daddy. |
Especially when salary outcomes are about the same for IU and JMU. |
| Which is better for engineering? |
Not JMU |

Not sure why all the hate on IU. It's a pretty good school. It is in Indiana, where the competion is significantly lower. 70% of the students are from Indiana, and the acceptance rate for in-state is 82%. So if you are from Indiana and are the average to above average candidate, IU presents a good choice. Out of state, your chances to be accepted to JMU are significantly lower than in-state IU. So apply to both, go visit both and make the best choice for yourself, based on where you get accepted.

| I would definitely send my kid to IU. But...we live in Indiana. That OOS price tag? It's either IU or Purdue for us for undergrad. No OOS. |
And IU is a great school for kids from Indiana who don't want to be far from Mommy & Daddy. This is fun!

You live in Indiana but are on this page? Weird |
| IU admittance rate for in state candidates is 82%. So there's that... why do you feel the need to try to knock down one school or they other? They are both good schools. Neither is Harvard. |
DCUM posters tend to be from all over the country. Most forums here aren't specific to Washington, DC. If this person were active on the Arlington schools forum, that would be weird. The college forum, not so much. |
Soccer school! (I mean, yes, definitely a basketball school - even when the team is mediocre. But the soccer team's performance over the last 50 years is other-worldly). |
Another Hoosier here. My son went to IU (and is doing great). My daughter very much wanted to get out of her brother's shadow and go elsewhere. But, when it came time to compare the price tag, the quality, and the course offerings; none of the out of state places she got into were worth the extra cost. (She was a very competitive student, but nothing that was getting her into an Ivy or the like.) So, now I have two kids at IU. |
