^^^ JMU math skills. |
Also accurate. Actually IU maybe is #8 in prestige in its own state. |
The PP is correct. The IU booster continues to look foolish by pretending IU is better ranked than it actually is. DP |

Doesn’t IU have top 10 programs for business and dance/fine art/music? How many top 10 programs does JMU have?
Maybe they’re both good schools and maybe IU is better than 8th in the state of Indiana. |
I'm the poster from Indiana. I lived in DC for 25 years. Went to college and grad school there and recently moved for work. So, yes. I read up on things not specific to the DC area on DCUM. |
I think people are going in circles on this thread. The original post started off with wondering if IU is better than JMU being OOS for both. Clearly, IU is a better pick then. The real question for DCUMland is would IU be worth the extra cost if one had a choice between the two and JMU was in-state. Is IU worth the extra $80-$100K? Let's say business school. |
Yes, this is my question too. We are VA instate. DC was accepted to Kelley and likely to JMU. Obviously JMU is cheaper, but it’s not clear which is the better choice. |
| I will say this. I do not know a single person who went to JMU who does not love it passionately. I have a neighbor who refers to it as, "the happiest place on earth." |
If you have the money to pay an extra 100k, go off of which one your kid likes best. Also, realize if kid goes to IU, they are more likely to settle out there after graduation. |
This is true. JMU is full of smart, kind, well-rounded students. It’s a great place to go to college. |
| I have not read the whole 17 page thread, so apologies...have folks been hearing from JMU. My son applied EA and he hasn't said anything yet. |
Look IU is a fine school as is JMU - but I am not at all clear IU would be a “better choice” than JMU even if cheaper. The data actually suggests better overall outcomes at JMU. Sorry - whether a school ranks 78 or 124 is not super compelling. |
