Can someone explain how DeSantis ever wins?

Around that time, I noticed DeSantis and his common sense approach to many things. When he banned sex ed in Florida public schools, I thought that was great. And then when he kicked Disney in the pants, I really took notice. Conservatives never lash out at businesses.

So you don't believe in the standard conservative values of local control over education and freedom of speech (including for corporations)?

No, I'm not overly concerned about local control-- state-level is fine. Re: free speech, we are in an era of declining free speech, and DeSantis rightly understands that we cant have the left pressuring businesses to take leftist approaches while the right sits on its hands and watches. Im not really a conservative. Im anti-progressive.

But you're fine with the right pressuring businesses? The right trying to cancel the NFL, Yeti, Disney, Nike, Starbucks, Keurig, Gillette, NASCAR, Coca Cola, Hallmark, Target, Ford, Doritos, and all of the other companies the right has attacked?

It's not an ideal state, but turnabout is fair play. It would be better if companies just sold their products. But that isnt the reality rn. We have companies using their power to influence politics and to restructure the economy via ESG. So no, I dont have a problem with DeSantis making tactical strikes to further those goals. I am not an ideological purist.

“Amid a lot of speculation that Donald Trump has lost his mojo as he goes into a third presidential campaign, he reminded the world (and more pointedly, the Republican elites who allegedly want him to go away) that he’s got more than one trick up his sleeve. As The Hill reports, Trump refused to commit to supporting the 2024 Republican presidential nominee in a conversation with conservative radio host and columnist Hugh Hewitt. “It would depend,” Trump told Hewitt. “I would give you the same answer I gave in 2016 during the debates.”

Despite signing a “loyalty pledge” going into the 2016 campaign, Trump periodically threatened to take his supporters right out of the Republican Party by launching a third-party or independent bid.”

What loyalty pledge did he sign? I remember at the first debate he pointedly refused to commit to backing the Republican nominee if it wasn't him.

Folks, you need some remedial education about all things DeSantis and Florida ----- the third largest state in the country, and the one growing fastest.

Yup, people keep leaving blue states to come to Florida. Those who can’t afford to move are stuck.

Hahahahahahaha like he walked away quietly when he lost last time? What do you think?

He was sobbing,
They call it sobbing.
With the tears and all that.
And he was begging.

There was so much begging.
He said, “Sir, please sir. Sir, won’t you please endorse me, sir?”

Tears running down his face,
It was really something.

That, I can tell you.

When George Bush won the presidency over Al Gore, the recount was over Florida's 25 electoral votes. New York had 33 and Texas 32.
The next election, Florida had 27, New York 31 and Texas 34. After the 2010 census it was New York 29, Texas 38, and Florida 29.
Now it is New York 28, Florida 30, and Texas 40.
Democrats have even managed to make California unaffordable, and it has lost electoral votes for the first time in the 170 years it has been a state.

What DeSantis is doing is outright fascism.

Anyone who supports him is a fool.

He is taking away women's rights, targeting blacks, the LGBTQ community

He will be after you are your loved ones next.

I mean the guy has friends everywhere - it's why he has all these longstanding relationships that he can fall on for support and guidance - and if he isn't already a friend, the second you meet him he becomes on. Sure it's no fun when he's tearing the books out of your home bookshelf for the pyre, or going door to door demanding the menstruation records for every female in the house, but - I don't know. THere's just something about him that you can't help but love at the end of the day!

Tell me this isn't a guy you want to go run around town carrying pitchforks with.

even i can see that this is a doctored photo

It’s an undoctored Associated Press photo. The photographer is AP’s chief photographer Evan Vucci who has won a Pulitzer and an Edward R. Murrow award for his work. So you can’t see shit. Sorry your guy looks bad though.

Of course it's a doctored photo. I don't care that the photographer won an Emmy for it. It's doctored because it doesn't look right. Real people who look like that don't yuk it up with Biden. These are paid actors planted to embarrass DeSantis with lies.

Who's embarrassed? D is doing what he does - being charming, warm, making people feel like they are in the company of a good friend. You can see it plain as day! Why do you hate Ron DeSantis so much that you ignore what's in front of your own eyes like that? YOU are the one who's embarrassing him.

DeSantis is actually doing what he does best. Walking past Biden who is telling his Corn Pop story to a couple of his admirers. Or, maybe he is reminiscing about things his dad used to say. He is good at that.
DeSantis is off to get things done. Biden is happy standing around telling lies and stories.

His lack of charm is part of the charm, don'tcha know! I can't help but think that people would turn over their daughters' menstrual records a little easier if he smiled while demanding them tho.

DeSantis has all the looks, charm and personality of a pile of mashed potatoes. Maybe if he were to add some gravy he might have a little more appeal.

No. I want a boring president.

Biden IS a boring President. DeSantis is a traveling circus of right wing grievances.

Snort. Do you even hear yourself? He has done none of those things, but do go on.

You understand how talking to kindergarten children about sex isnt a pro-LBGT position, right? I can support gay rights and also support parents rights to not have their elementary student receive sex ed.

You understand that isn't what was actually happening, right? It is just lies to get people like you riled up.

Again: my teacher friends in Florida had to empty their libraries because they were told they could be guilty of a felony if a parent complained about ANY book, including Little Red Riding Hood.

Told by who? You keep saying that. I sincerely doubt DeSantis or any of his appointed officials informed your teacher friend that Little Red Riding Hood is a felony.

They were told by their school administration.

In fact there's a big story in WAPO about it.

Look it up. Educate yourself. DeSantis is weaponizing the governorship. He is a full on dictator now.

+1 Go read the book burning thread. This is the official video from Duval County schools regarding classroom libraries. Every book in a classroom must be approved by a certified media specialist or the teacher can be charged with a felony.

ANY parent or "community member" can challenge a book and open up the offending teacher to possible criminal charges. Not in some rural backwater corner, this is Jacksonville.
