Can someone explain how DeSantis ever wins?

It is pretty awful to have to listen to him speak.

I had never really listened to him speak before. This prompted me to go watch his inauguration speech. Wow, he is a bad speaker! That voice and the constant swaying around behind the podium is really grating.

Voter suppression is a thing in Florida.

He makes super weird facial expressions and always seems like he really has to poop but you're making him stand up there on the stage

Can you explain how you typically educate yourself about things outside DC?

Whatever you're doing is wrong. So wrong I won't even try to refute all that nonsense you managed to wrap in so few words!

Wait, someone called DeSantis telegenic?

He can't and won't win.

First of all, he has zero charisma. None. He is flat and comes across as stupid when he speaks.

Secondly, there are not enough Cubans nationwide to swing the vote toward the man because "democrats. socialism."

Finally, his culture war issues will not play on a national stage. Very limited to Florida and MAGA types, who sorry, are the minority. Electoral college or not.

He is dead in the water rotten fish.

Not sure about that, it actually worked for him in Florida, many people in the center voted for him last year.

And the press is giving him a ton of free coverage...

My guess is very few centrists voted for him. The press coverage is fine, because there will be no surprises about what he truly is when the primaries roll around.

He is Trump without the cult of personality and likely won't even win the Republican primary if DJT is even still remotely mobile and cogent. And even if the Trump wave among primary voters has permanently ebbed, Desantis is DOA when people are reminded of his anti-woke initiatives that just look shoddy and hateful.

Of course it worked in Florida. This idea that Florida is anything but red is nothing but delusional wishful thinking.

Why do you think Cubans vote republican? Thoughts?

Anonymous wrote:I will preface this by saying I would NOT vote for DeSantis (or any other Republican) in 2024 or at all, but for other reasons. I’m a moderate Asian Democrat and of all the offensive things DeSantis is doing, I’m not particularly bothered by his educational policies. I have found the obsession with “woke” (for lack of a better word, i.e. prioritizing diversity and racial issues over almost everything else) policies in public and higher education to be tiresome and annoying over the past few years and I find it somewhat refreshing that some politicians are pushing back against it. I think there are some problems with the Don’t Say Gay law, but it doesn’t bother me in a way that I would be alienated if I were otherwise inclined to vote for him. I just won’t because there are other issues that I fundamentally disagree with him and other Republicans on and the “woke” culture war is mostly an annoyance.

My point is that there are many people who are supportive of or at least unbothered by DeSantis’ entry into this particular culture war. Even people who you might be surprised about like me, a non-white Democrat. I hope I’m wrong because I actually think he will be more destructive than Trump if elected president, but I think DeSantis will be the nominee in 2024 and will put up a real challenge to Biden. He’s also young and telegenic, which doesn’t help.

I believe you are correct.

I really started paying attention to DeSantis when he basically got everything right during the pandemic.

Ever since then, I haven't seen him do anything I disagree with. If he gets the nomination, I'm 100% going to vote for him.

Because they hear Rs throw "socialism" around as catch-all bogeyman and can't see the difference between authoritarian socialist governments and socialism as an economic theory. But Rs, who are truly authoritarian, have done a great job marketing themselves as the freedom party.

Thankfully, Florida and its insane policies, and your agreement, aren't representative of most of the country.

In other words, you think Cuban Americans are stupid.

And you wonder why they don't vote for your side...
