Yeah, but this one wasn’t a mass shooting. It only resulted in 2 officers receiving minor wounds and being released from the hospital. I can remember a time when two officers being shot at an Independence Day fireworks show would’ve been the craziest story of the summer, not the second most scandalous shooting of the day. |

Stop applying political beliefs to these young shooters! . It’s the guns. It’s always the guns.
A look at this guys social was clear he’s a nihilist. But the bottom line is, GUNS and the fanatical gun culture in the US. |
|
I don’t think the shooting was political in nature. But lots of crazy people are drawn to the MAGA movement because it makes them feel empowered. MAGA also trafficks in conspiracy theories which mirrors/enhances these crazy people’s disordered thought patterns.
It’s like moths to a light…. |
If you look at his social media (which they are trying desperately to scrub), the guy liked to mock Trump and MAGA. Seemed to be part of his rapper persona. I agree, I don’t think the shooting was political in nature. |
You have an ex President looking to retain power through violence, a congress rep posing with her AR 15. MAGA has normalized and legitimized violence and gun culture. We will see more violence from MAGAs as they inevitably lose power. |
Agree. 4th of July provided a large group of vulnerable victims. There doesn't have to be another political motivation. But politics are relevant to the underlying problem and the solutions. |
| So horrible! Wtf is wrong with our country that we continue to let this happen?!! |
The most powerful fringe segment of wealthy white conservative elites want to retain their power at any cost imaginable. They will start systemically killing people - Holocaust style - if they are not stopped now. They want guns to flood the streets because they want you to feel like government cannot protect you. If government doesn’t protect you, they are hoping that you’ll acquiesce to a strongman conservative authoritarian. It’s a classic bait and switch - they create the problem and then try to convince you that they are the only ones who can solve the problem they created. |
Highland Park is very Jewish. I don't think we can ignore some anti-semitic instinct here. It is so scary, and so sad. And why can't we just say out loud that guns are the problem? Why is that so gd hard to acknowledge? |
oh, gd |
I have not seen any evidence that this was an anti-Semitic attack, but also want to give cops the time to do their jobs and investigate. But most mass shooters attack their own community, IIRC. This guy was from Highland Park and has a long family history in the town. He’s probably attended this parade a dozen times or more as a child. This was personal. |
It seems like guns + political radicalization. I'm not sure why we have to ignore the second part since it's so prevalent. |
Red States are DEATH CAMPS. They lead the way in poverty, firearm mortality, Covid mortality, infant mortality, maternal mortality, motor vehicle mortality etc etc etc. That’s the GOP vision for America. |
| I don't care what the shooter's politics were. How is that helpful?? Does it make you feel better if he was on the other side? Six people are still dead. Arguing over whether or not he was a Trump supporter is useless. There is no evidence that this was politically motivated. Another young white man who left behind a trail of red flags. Easy access to guns is the common denominator, not politics. |
This poster is extremely spot on. |
