Yep. Should have lied more.

not lied. Just be more circumspect about what they were doing. They could easily have gotten away with it. Not to say they still won't.

Circumspect, circumvent. Basically should have been more sophisticated in covering their racist intentions. They just were too brazen this time. Live and learn I guess.

The lack of intelligence and savvy they brought to bear when coming up with the scheme that just got invalidated is a good sign that they won’t get it right the next time they try to engage in heavy-handed social engineering.

They should base TJ admissions on merit or, if they can’t accept that, close it down and return it to local community use. All these vapid and politically motivated efforts to assign seats by race are an offensive waste of time and county resources. They’ve already picked one TJ class that doesn’t really belong at a STEM magnet and if left unchecked will just keep screwing up.

The holistic BS does not work for public education. I need full transparency on how my tax $$ are being spent. If not, be prepared for school vouchers. Won't be pretty.

Colleges got away with that sh*t because people were honestly sleeping through that change. Do you realize how much we subsidize those colleges - Public and Private? What right do they have to use MY money and deny me fair process. They are more than welcome to pay full taxes as I do and do what they want. I won't complain. Holistic away on your own dime!

Nope.

My tax money goes to support our community. Not just the entitled few.

Diversity in law schools and even colleges has already been recognized by the courts as important. And now the question will be if this extends to selective high schools like TJ. I suspect that ultimately the answer will be yes. Even in the Supreme Ct. But for now the Reagan appointee Claude Hilton can have his say.

And that's why we have votes

If it fails on appeal locally, don't you think it will go to the Supreme Court?

There are many potential paths this could take. Assuming arguendo the school system appeals to the Fourth Circuit and obtains a stay of the district court order, nothing has to change. Then, again assuming arguendo the school system "wins" on appeal, yes, a petition by the losing side to get the Supreme Court to take the case could happen. It cannot be assumed that there would be 5 votes to reverse an appellate decision.

While I agree with your sentiment, I disagree that the selected kids don't belong at a STEM magnet. These ARE smart kids capable of working through TJ. Let's not stoop to their (the libt*rds) level.

The judge didn't rule on that basis, though, Rather, he found discriminatory intent. Strict scrutiny standard, but a different type of analysis. Diversity in those contexts for admissions has been recognized, and is the law of the land. But note that that could change with the Harvard case.

Exactly. The judge's decision showed the school board made a racially discriminatory admissions policy based on emotions after George Floyd and attempted to shield the policy from public view. Not only was the board racist but grossly incompetent, neither of which should be tolerated in this rich, educated, and diverse county.

In that case you should have been calling for years for TJ to be returned to community use.

Fact is that you (and other Democratic activists like those in charge of the FCDC) are fine with elitism and exclusivity, as long as it's in support of the political coalition of progressive whites and non-Asian minorities that you're trying to assemble.

So you get intensely worked up about TJ, because it's high-profile, but don't give a crap about the overt segregation protected by the likes of Karen Corbett Sanders (at West Potomac) and Elaine Tholen (at Langley).

I hope you get your asses handed to you in the upcoming elections because we've seen just how effing hypocritical you are.

+1000. If nothing else, this lawsuit (through the documents discovered by the plaintiffs before the summary judgment motion was filed) sheds further light on just how bumbling, incompetent, unprincipled, and nakedly political the FCPS School Board is, and how much they need to be replaced.

But I'm saying it's not at all clear anymore that "racial balancing" is illegal. That's certainly a loaded term he used, but it's not at all clear that trying to get more black kids into these selective schools is going to be deemed illegal discrimination. That was their intent for sure. MNt sure courts are going to agree that's illegal. We'll see. We're not going to be able to litigate it here.

McLaughlin may have pleased some parents with her position on school re-opening but her involvement with the TJ admissions change and her lack of diligence and integrity when it came to other issues renders her unsuitable for future public office.

They should all be replaced in 2023.
