Federal judge rules that admissions changes at nation’s top public school discriminate against Asian

Yes, it’s been quite a debacle.

We had an exceptionally weak Superintendent who thought he could work his way back into the good graces of the far-left School Board by treating George Floyd’s killing as an opportunity to effect major changes at TJHSST that he thought would make them happy. The changes were arbitrary and not fully understood by School Board members as they approved them, and some conceded - while joking about it - that the changes were anti-Asian. That wasn’t lost on the court.

It’s all been transparently political, and it didn’t even work out for Brabrand, who didn’t get the contract extension he was seeking and is now on his way out. And hopefully the FCPS School Board members, who’ve also been a disaster when it came to keeping kids in school, adjusting school boundaries, and prioritizing things like school name changes over academics, will get replaced when they next come up for election in 2023. What a bunch of dishonest, hypocritical hacks.

So liberals are solidly against Asians now?

Of course not.

Yes they are. Actions speak louder than words.

Yes, they are. That’s clear from the start. With the all D school board, Brabrand, and the numerous posts in DCUM land that effectively show the pulse of the liberal agenda. And look at what happened in San Francisco.

Stating that the judge is a right winger ( as a previous post did) and adding that the 4th circuit is “solidly liberal” is loud and clear. Along with the multitude digs about ‘tiger moms’ and ‘robots’ and ‘cheaters’. Add to that the complete apathy about how it’s totally okay to create systemic discrimination or ethnic cleansing of Asians- (as another poster said the previous admissions was ethnic cleansing blacks).

If you haven’t figured out liberals hate Asians, you’re still drinking the Kool-Aid. My vote is independent now. This goes beyond TJ.

Your vote is “independent now”?

Have you seen the casual racism and stereotyping by liberals on this board? I will no longer give Democrats the benefit of the doubt when voting between Republicans and Democrats. As far as I’m concerned both parties harbor racists towards Asians.

If only the school board hadn’t talked about this in terms of racial balancing, it would stand today. They simply need to change their plan to say they are selecting the most qualified applicants from each school. They really mucked things up by talking about race at all. That’s kind of emblematic of what’s wrong in discussions about race today.

What we are really talking about is that people who come from homes that have advantages, both cultural and financial, perform better academically and end up in better jobs. So unless we are prepared to fix long-standing cultural and financial differences, we are stuck talking about skin color which is ridiculous. And since we don’t know how to fix cultural differences, it turns into a play to divert money from the rich to the poor. Which is not politically popular. There are no good answers here.

If we actually care about preparing our children to compete on the world stage, this equity approach is not going to work. We are going to have to take advantage of the kids in society who are already advantaged. They are the ones who need to be well educated to compete with Russia and China. But first the pendulum needs to swing back from the LWNJ‘s, which is happening. Slowly.

What's the NCAAP? North Carolina Advanced Academic Program?

Their problem is they were too transparent. They need to be like the colleges. "Holistic" admissions means we admit whomever we want for whatever reason we want, and go ahead and try to prove we did this because of racial considerations. (Which every college in the country does).

The truth is coming out because unqualified students in the 9th grade are leaving in droves. They were sold on the school but now realize they were just pawns in the political agenda that FCPS, Scott Brabrand, and the School Board wanted to further.

They should be held accountable for their comments, but this change was needed.

Increasing access to qualified, diverse community only help us.

Yep. Should have lied more.

not lied. Just be more circumspect about what they were doing. They could easily have gotten away with it. Not to say they still won't.

I learnt this a while back. Some Democrats are all nice as long as you are below them and they can condescend to/control you. As soon as you start becoming equal or do better, the racism comes out. It is just more subtle than with the Republicans but possibly more hurtful.

Not only were those fools racist but they also cost the democratic party the Governorship. I hope that sinks in. Youngkin won by only 63K votes, all of which could have been easily negated by McAuliff winning a few percentage points more in the Nova area, likely lost because a few pissed off Asians (TJ issue) and Whites (Woke education issue) decided to vote against the Dems (not for the Republicans). Sad. Hope that lessons sticks in their thick skulls. They will have to work overtime to woo those lost votes back.

Reasonable minds could differ. I’m not quite sure the evidence adds up here on these facts. That aside, as a general observation, one would imagine or hope that “liberal” judges would not walk in lockstep on this, given that the changes are apparently adversely affecting a distinct minority group. But, like Jews, they may not be the ‘right’ type of minority group.

The holistic BS does not work for public education. I need full transparency on how my tax $$ are being spent. If not, be prepared for school vouchers. Won't be pretty.

Colleges got away with that sh*t because people were honestly sleeping through that change. Do you realize how much we subsidize those colleges - Public and Private? What right do they have to use MY money and deny me fair process. They are more than welcome to pay full taxes as I do and do what they want. I won't complain. Holistic away on your own dime!

If it fails on appeal locally, don't you think it will go to the Supreme Court?
