Totally agree, what did this add?

Not related to the episode discussion, but for those who enjoy "Grumpy Gregory" the neighbor: It's certain that we'll see Gregory at least one more time before the series ends. Tim Omundson just filmed for an upcoming episode.

Is that Kate/Toby’s next door neighbor?

Yes

gah! really! because I totally thought Kate would end up with HIM (not that jerk school teacher)

I'm the PP who posted about Tim Omundson filming recently. I'd read that there were fan theories about Gregory and Kate ending up as a couple. I can't see it, but I know many viewers .would prefer anyone to Philip!

Omundson said on his "Psych" podcast last week that he'd filmed on TIU for "a day," indicating it was just one day total, I think. So unless TIU got a ton done on that one day, it doesn't sound like it was enough time to create a Gregory-Kate romance. But who knows?

The best news to me was that he might be in scenes walking without his cane. For Omundson fans who've followed him through his medical journey, that's really lovely to hear.

Yes, this made no sense. There was a photo of both boys on the mom's dresser, so one tiny acknowledgment but that's all.

Nicky also came up in the hot dog and tomato soup discussion Jack had with his mom.

It was sad, but boring. Jacks backstory is boring at this point in the show. The best part of the episode was the scenes for next week.

It’s like they’re just giving Milo random stuff to do to justify his salary and lead credit.

Except they're bringing Cassidy back which zzzzzzzzzz.

Really? Ugh.

Waste of an episode. And so weird how they handled Nicky. Why wasn’t he there to eat the hotdogs?

I liked this episode (and wasn’t expecting to.)

Jack’s mom was totally overshadowed by his Dad, and he never really knew or appreciated who she was. In many ways, Rebecca is overshadowed by the kids’ memories of their perfect Dad and they don’t see her as a person in her own right. (Probably true of many kid-parent relationships.) it’s only know as they’re losing her that they are finally starting to know her (remember how tense the relationships were when the show started? Kate and Rebecca, Kevin and Miguel?

The unreliability of memory was another theme that linked this with the present day storyline.

I was wondering that too. Before Jack left for Ohio, the radio was talking about snow from Ontario going over Lake Erie. I grew up outside Cleveland, where we got this kind of lake effect snow. So maybe this was a small town in northeastern Ohio. But that would only put it a couple hours from Pittsburgh, and it seems like Jack lived farther away than that.

He said it was a 4 hour car ride - when discussing with rebecca.

This episode had nothing to do with most of the flashbacks, almost like the writer of this episode didn't know about Nicky.

I think the Pearsons live in Bethel Park, PA, which is a southern suburb of Pgh. Maybe he was heading somewhere on the outskirts of Toledo, so just under 4 hours to drive and still on the lake.

This is exactly how I felt about the episode. We're in the final season. I don't need more stories about new characters. There are plenty of storylines to be told. Where are Annie and Tess? I'd like more scenes with them. Or more with Rebecca and Miguel's early days. A whole episode about Jack's mom was unnecessary.
