Lia Thomas - Will this change college sports for women or a nothingburger?

I say this as an Asian liberal who is ready to vote Republican in order to bring an end to what trans people are doing to women’s rights.

If racing against a 6’5 man is what Democrats think is fair for my daughter, then I think it’s fair for Democrats never to win again.

IDGAF what this person claims to believe about his gender, a biological male does NOT belong in women’s sports. You don’t solve men’s problems by stomping on women.

I agree but Republicans will take away voting rights. Abortion rights and many believe the election was stolen. So they are ruining democracy. That is scarier.

Take away voting rights from whom?

I do, however, draw the line at competitive sports, where money or scholarships are on the line.
I also wouldn’t object if the biological male transitioned before puberty - but that is exceptionally rare.
I’m not a weak or small woman, but I know my 14 year old son can pin me in wrestling (we take judo together). He is bigger and stronger at 14 years old than I have ever been - and he’s not that athletic and doesn’t train outside of once a week classes.

Well then you must be a big supporter of Thomas. No money or scholarships at issue so all good right?

You can’t be this daft. Of course, there is money at issue. Have you ever heard of scholarships, sponsorships, endorsements, lots at issue. If you’re this ignorant of competitive sports, then you don’t belong in the conversation.

You are not very good at this are you? University of Pennsylvania. Ring any bells? Hmmmm I wonder what league that school participates in? Hmmmm. What could it be? The flower league? The tree league? The garden league? Golly this is so complicated. I know. I know. It's the Ivy League. Well -- the Ivy League is noted for all the athletic scholarships that it gives out. Yep. Nothing like the Ivy League for football factories right? Oh wait -- darn it. THE IVY LEAGUE BANS ALL ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS.

Something, something, "don't belong in the conversation".

Are you under the impression that ivy league schools are the only ones in existence? What kind of elitism and selfishness enables you to ignore that every other school system allows athletic scholarships and these are a vital lifeline for female athletes who aren’t wealthy?

Let me take a page from your all-caps book since that’s a method you understand:

ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE AT VIRTUALLY EVERY OTHER SCHOOL.

Oh, and ivy league athletes themselves say that SPONSORSHIPS AND ADVERTISEMENTS are an important source of income now that student athletes can monetize their own accomplishments. See, e.g., https://www.si.com/college/2021/09/17/ivy-league-sports-name-image-likeness-ncaa

You’re a complete liar to pretend there is no money on the line. AND SEPARATE FROM MONEY, female athletes deserve to reap the rewards of their hard work in a FAIR race.

Got it? Good.

PP here. Allowing men in all-female spaces and gutting both Title VII and Title IX is MUCH worse than requiring voters to show ID to vote. Sit down and ponder the fact that our daughters are going to be shut out of fair athletic competition, already scarce research dollars for women’s health is being diverted to men identifying as women in the name of trans rights, and trans women are applying for and taking fellowships and opportunities in the sciences and fields women are grossly underrepresented in. Women’s shelters and clinics have been shut down because men self-IDing as trans women have insisted upon access to them, despite the terror that rape victims experience when men are given access to them. Women are being raped in prison by trans women and the courts are dismissing their lawsuits while trans women can sue for being raped by men. Wake the hell up.

Pause for a moment to think of every initiative intended to level the playing field for women and understand those are now in play for men to exploit under the guise of trans rights. The aggressiveness with which trans advocates push for measures that will clearly harm women and worsen our position is unacceptable.

Red herring.

Women deserve to compete under fair circumstances. Trans women should continue competing in the men’s leagues they were already competing in. Their annoyance that they can’t cherrypick who to compete against does NOT matter more than the unfairness and indecency of allowing them to use their male advantages to push women to the periphery of our own sports.

Omg so glad you swooped in to put the a$$wipe PP in their place. Their post had me seething but my reply certainly would have been lackluster. Thanks for that.

Abortion is going to be a state by state issue shortly. You can thank Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who refused to step down during Obama‘s first term when we had the House and the Senate. You can thank Democratic senators who refuse to get rid of the filibuster. And our current Democratic president was the author of the Hyde Amendment, one of the biggest ways in which the freedom Roe was intended to provide women was gutted. You are drinking the Kool-Aid if you don’t think Democrats are every bit to blame for the sorry state of abortion rights.

They exploit issues that women and minorities care about and then betray us and push through measures for men and rich people. The only thing worse than an open enemy is one that poses as a friend and stabs you in the back.

PP here. You are very welcome and thank you for your support. Women need to rise up. We will not be mansplained nor will we be silenced by handmaidens shilling for trans women. Whichever category that gaslighting liar defending Lia Thomas falls in, s/he can kick rocks.

Once again: Red herring.

You are the one who shit of the debate because you don’t want to have a discussion that needs to be had. This is about fairness. People with penises belong competing with other people who have penises no matter what you claim to identify as. Period.

It’s like you’re completely incapable of seeing the big picture, or what ramifications this will have down the line. A dangerous precedent is being set here.

That person knows and doesn’t care. The misogyny and bigotry of trans women and their supporters towards women needs to be more publicized. They don’t give a damn about us and would happily push us into oncoming traffic. Look at the death threats and rape threats they send to J. K. Rowling. Men are the ones killing them, but women are the ones who should die for speaking up.

It’s a damn shame and we’re just at the front end of this trend unfortunately. I think it’s disgraceful that this person was bragging about how easily she dominated the biological females…..where on earth is the honor in that?
