Lia Thomas - Will this change college sports for women or a nothingburger?

I support trans rights, and have several friends and family that are trans. I don’t care what bathroom they use. I don’t care what rec team they join.
I do, however, draw the line at competitive sports, where money or scholarships are on the line.
I also wouldn’t object if the biological male transitioned before puberty - but that is exceptionally rare.
I’m not a weak or small woman, but I know my 14 year old son can pin me in wrestling (we take judo together). He is bigger and stronger at 14 years old than I have ever been - and he’s not that athletic and doesn’t train outside of once a week classes.

If Republicans run on the way trans women are trying to destroy everything women have worked for, they will win BIG.

I say this as an Asian liberal who is ready to vote Republican in order to bring an end to what trans people are doing to women’s rights.

If racing against a 6’5 man is what Democrats think is fair for my daughter, then I think it’s fair for Democrats never to win again.

IDGAF what this person claims to believe about his gender, a biological male does NOT belong in women’s sports. You don’t solve men’s problems by stomping on women.

The NCAA championships are in Georgia. There is a good shot he will be banned from competing under state law by then. Lets see if this is the case the NCAA is wiling to make a national issue over. If it is, I don't think it goes the way the NCAA will want it to

Well then you must be a big supporter of Thomas. No money or scholarships at issue so all good right?

The reality is that the NCAA is very happy to support trans athletes. I strongly suspect that they are looking for an easy fight to win after the weightroom fiasco. Legally the NCAA can set any competitive rules it wants. And actually no State organization wants to go to court on their anti-trans laws because they don’t want the negative rulings. It was always just a show by Satanist looking to promote trans kids killing themselves. Tennessee’s statute was particularly laughable if it didn’t have such negative impacts on real people. “Ban trans athletes”. “You know if you ban trans athletes from competing in college our Tennessee teams will be in violation of NCAA rules?” “Okay then - college trans athletes are fine, but no high school trans athletes.” South Dakota actually had their whacko right Governor veto the anti-trans bill passed there for the same reason.

College trans athletes are fine. Just high school trans athletes are evil.

You can’t be this daft. Of course, there is money at issue. Have you ever heard of scholarships, sponsorships, endorsements, lots at issue. If you’re this ignorant of competitive sports, then you don’t belong in the conversation.

Photos of her competing as a very large jacked him will be everywhere. He's about the worst poser woman possible for transsports because he embodies everything that anti trans people worry about. He was mediocre as a male- an ok Ivy League swimmer, but nothing special, and then transitioned and became a great female swimmer. She still looks like a large man and there are photos of him that Sinclair affiliates can place to the side of their anchors whenever they talk about the story.

You are not very good at this are you? University of Pennsylvania. Ring any bells? Hmmmm I wonder what league that school participates in? Hmmmm. What could it be? The flower league? The tree league? The garden league? Golly this is so complicated. I know. I know. It's the Ivy League. Well -- the Ivy League is noted for all the athletic scholarships that it gives out. Yep. Nothing like the Ivy League for football factories right? Oh wait -- darn it. THE IVY LEAGUE BANS ALL ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS.

Something, something, "don't belong in the conversation".

Twitter is going crazy about Lia Thomas’ record-setting performance last weekend. Do you think she is a unicorn and we should all just calm down or is it likely that women who were born male fundamentally change college sports and scholarships?

Not fundamentally because stories like this are exceedingly rare. But for the athletes in these particular swimming events, this is a difficult situation.

Not really and it’s only going to expand going forward. Sucks to be one of the competing women athletes, or one of the women athletes who had their records literally blown out of the water.

Yeah. Just ask the top three female born track athletes from Connecticut who suddenly weren’t when a boy started competing. It isn’t that rare.

What kind of sponsorships and endorsements do you think Penn swimmers are recieving?

It sets a dangerous precedent. It’s clearly not specifically about Lia.

I agree but Republicans will take away voting rights. Abortion rights and many believe the election was stolen. So they are ruining democracy. That is scarier.
