I think the 8 justices currently on SCOTUS are horrified at what is going on. I think that each one of them are thinking... “Geez. I’m glad nobody searched deep into my high school years because there are things there that they would certainly consider disqualifying.” I think they are disgusted that the argument is coming down to what was written in his HS yearbook and the fact that he likes beer.

It’s a travesty. Nobody is a saint. Nobody has made Kavanaugh out to be a saint. He’s human - just like the other 8 justices who have been confirmed. And, simply because people have leveled false allegations at him, we have come to this. It’s pathetic.

I agree that they are likely horrified. I disagree about why. I doubt any of them had this kind of background (even Thomas) that warranted such scrutiny. The issue is the nominee.

He never should have lied about the drinking. He was trying to avoid any possibility that he could have attacked Ford and not remembered, but he just looks ridiculous now. I mean, FFS, he pledged a fraternity and was involved in bar fights. Did he really think nobody would speak up?

Major dem voter turnout a la year of the woman In 1992 after the Thomas comfirmation.

He’s less conservative than some of the alternatives on the list Trump selects from.

He would have to recuse himself from certain political cases given his testimony.

He would be miserable and that might shorten his term.

On CNN yesterday they were saying that it is turning out to be a good thing for Republicans for the midterms. Surprising but it is apparently whipping up the white male voters.

Meh. The people worked up by this (in favor of Kavanaugh) were already voters. That’s how we got Trump.

Not just the male voters. The female voters also. Bigly.

Clarence must be thrilled with this nominee!

True. He is no longer the record holder for most scandalous nomination process.

Yes. Like DT was the best thing to ever happen to the reputation of GWB!

I wonder if DT did this on purpose? He may pull K from the nomination or K may drop out. DT may nominate another ultra-conservative (Mike Lee?) who is already vetted and this person will be confirmed within lighting speed just ahead of the MT elections. Sadly, I believe that the Supreme Court will tilt towards the right either way.

I wonder that too. I still think DJT's comments about K's drinking indicate DJT is down on Kav.

Personally I highly, highly doubt that.

But, I would LOVE for people to start investigating all of the Senators and Representatives and SCJs. The truth will set you free. And I will bet you ten dollars right now that the ladies on the court come back very, very clean.

+1. I can only hope that the current judges are unified in their upholding of the dignity of the SCOTUS. If they agree on one thing, it may be that BK should not have lied under oath. However small those lies are, he was foolish to deny his boorish highschool and college behavior. He should have admitted to his drinking, claimed youthful stupidity, and apologized sincerely for behavior that he would now not condone. He should definitely not have highlighted his political partisanship. I'm no BK fan, but I would have been more accepting of his nomination had he been truthful, remorseful, and highlighted his more recent record of promoting women in the legal profession.

At this point I could see Manchin and Heitkamp voting for confirmation and Flake, Collins and Murkowski voting against. What a travesty - the stupid Trump base would win again.

I am pretty sure, at a minimum, Collins, Murkowski, Flake and Mancin are a block that will vote together.

I guarantee you that you’d find something disqualifying that each of them did. Whether you would admit it or not is another story. People are not perfect. Did one of the justices smoke pot? Did one of the justices make a remark that could be considered disparaging to a protected group? Did one of the justices file a tax return that doesn’t meet your standards? Did one of the justices <gasp> drink alcohol in HS? Were any of the justices treated for a health condition you might consider disqualifying - depression, ADHD, something else?
You can find something that would not meet with your approval.

Then he is a moron. Another disqualification.

None of the things you just listed would disqualify Kavanaugh.

If you say so, it must be true.
